Authentically delicious food with excellent flavor, texture, and presentation.
We had a wonderful experience at this cafe. In the morning, as we passed by the entrance, we were hit by the strong fragrance of pandan. Suspecting that this was the smell of homemade chendol being cooked, we returned to the cafe in the evening. We were not disappointed; the chendol jelly was fragrant and soft, and paired surprisingly well with the slightly unusual addition of strips of jackfruit. The kidney beans were also cooked perfectly and was not too sweet. The cooked food at the place also looked so good that we decided to have lunch here the next day. The Lou Shu Fun had fresh prawns and plenty of chicken inside, simple but well balanced. However, the Nasi Lemak Ikan was the star. The coconut rice was very fragrant with coconut milk, but was not too rich or cloying. The fish was fried perfectly, not greasy at all. What surprised me the most was that the ikan bilis tasted freshly fried, providing a crunchy umami punch. The juices were also very nice, the pineapple one being made without sugar, and the dragonfruit one combined with just condensed milk (no additional sweeteners). The yuan yang was also served hot, frothy and smooth. I must also mention that the ladies of the cafe are all very friendly, and that their kitchen looks sparkling clean. I am slightly confused about why this place gets no mention in any Penang food recommendations. This is clearly a hidden gem, not to be missed.
