See All ReviewsWe’ve been coming here for years and it hits every time. So so tasty. Get the aberus combo and a glass of honey wine. :)
This place was fantastic, and I’m pretty positive it’s the best Ethiopian I’ve had in Portland. We came on a Wednesday that seemed slow, but the restaurant soon filled up with eager customers. As the food started to come out, we got hungrier and hungrier. With each dish we saw - every dish intoxicating to the senses, fragrant and plated beautifully - we became more and more eager to try the food that everyone present seemed to already be so fond of. Our own meal (starting with the surprisingly fragrant sambusa’s that were light and crispy, perfectly spiced and savory, and incredibly satisfying all at the same time) kept us mesmerized throughout. Our main course, the Aberus Combo, which was sufficient for us to share and still bring some of it home, was somehow only $27 and featured a dazzling array of tantalizing dishes that tickled the senses and soothed the soul (and our hungry tummies). The two ladies behind the counter, one who cooked and one who served, quickly greeted us and got us set up. Our server was helpful, attentive, friendly, eager to answer any questions about the menu, and made excellent suggestions. The picture I am posting only features our satisfied faces because the food was unfortunately too quickly devoured - our senses genuinely overwhelmed with the food leaving us preoccupied with trying every delectable dish and incapable of remembering to take a picture of the incredible meal before us. Five stars is the limit, otherwise I would have given more. Do yourself a favor and eat here!
The best Ethiopian restaurant in Portland in my opinion. I appreciate especially as a celiac, that their injera is truly authentic with just Teff and automatically gluten free (unlike many other ethiopian retaurants who use cheap wheat flour). Both ladies are so kind and accomodating to allergies, the portions are massive and it's just so delicious! We always order the aberus combination without dairy (it's automatically gluten free). It has a great variety of curries from beef, chicken and vegetarian to eat. One of my husband's and my favorite spots in the city - definitely check it out!
