See All ReviewsI had such a beautiful dinner at Admas Ethiopian in Oakland. The injera was perfectly fermented — soft with that signature tang — and every item on the platter felt thoughtfully prepared. The lentils were rich and comforting, the beets vibrant, the split peas creamy, and the collards seasoned just right. As someone who really appreciates plant-based cuisine, I could taste the care and tradition in every bite. The space felt warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even more special. I’m so grateful for this meal and will absolutely be back.
Admas is exactly what you want in a neighborhood Ethiopian spot. Unpretentious mom and pop vibes with Ethiopian music videos playing on the big screen behind the register and some nice art on the walls. We rolled 17 deep for a friend’s birthday and the staff handled it like pros. We went with the combination platters, and these things are massive. Beef, chicken, lamb, kale, salad, beans, lentils, all the classics spread out over a mountain of injera. Everything was well-spiced and balanced, though I wouldn’t have minded a touch more salt here and there. But honestly, that’s me being picky. The real star here is the injera. Perfectly tart, super spongy, and we kept asking for more because we couldn’t get enough. They were happy to keep it coming, which is exactly how Ethiopian dining should be. Eating with your hands, tearing off pieces of that tangy bread to scoop up the stews and veggies, it’s as authentic as it gets. Service was on point. They kept our waters filled, checked in regularly, and helped us navigate the menu without being pushy. The pacing was great even with our huge group. Pro tip: take leftovers. I ate mine the next day for dinner and it was just as delicious, maybe even better after everything had time to marry together overnight. If you’re craving Ethiopian food in Oakland, Admas delivers. Solid food, great service, and that comfortable neighborhood feel that makes you want to come back.
Authentic East African taste reflective of expert usage of spice and availability of imported injera. High-quality ingredients (down to the use of olive oil and not seed oil) makes for an even better experience. Quanta Firfir and Veggie Combo are both rock solid. In a city of so many East African options, Admas is a top contender. Friendly and attentive staff. Contemporary paintings on walls from across sub-Saharan Africa.
