I have been keeping an eye on Alonsos's Tres Rios for a while now. Conveniently located at the corner of the N.10th and Hackberry in McAllen, Texas, the moment I sat down my drink order was taken, and while I reviewed the menu, a wonderful serving of home made chips and salsas kept me company while I waited for my main attraction: the caldo de res(beef and vegetable soup). The ice tea, freshly made went down smooth, and the green salsa and pick de gallo was a welcome treat with the chips. The caldo de res was prepared fresh fresh upon order...the texture of the potatoes, carrots, squash, and corn were such that they had an excellent bit. While the caldo de res was somewhat de-constructed, the portion of beef that accompanied the large caldo de res was not only substantial, but tender! The caldo was accompanied by Spanish rice which always makes my day. Being on a foodie journey I opted out of tortillas and decided to have saltines instead. The service was outstanding...the server kept my ice tea glass filled up! Alonso's offers up breakfast all day...open daily at 8am and closes at 4pm. Give Alonso's Tres Rios restaurant a try next time you crave an excellent meal! Update on 05/23/2026...try their breakfast! Check out the photos I uploaded!

I’ve been to Alonso’s Tres Lagos four times, and overall it’s been a great experience. The service is excellent—the staff is friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. So far I’ve tried the flautas, caldo tlalpeño, enchiladas de mole, bistec ranchero and the enchiladas suizas. Everything was very flavorful and comforting, definitely dishes I’d order again. The only downside for me was the enchiladas suizas—they weren’t really suizas, but instead enchiladas verdes, which was a little disappointing since I was looking forward to the traditional version. Aside from that, everything else has been good, and the atmosphere is enjoyable. I’d recommend giving this place a try if you’re in the area. Overall, I’d give it an 9.5 out of 10.

Absolutely some of the best Mexican Food I've had in awhile. It's a small family owned business. Restaurant was very clean. Staff was friendly. Prices reasonable. I had the bistek ranchero with flour tortillas, which were home made! This will definitely be a favorite to go to.
