See All ReviewsGreat spot and decent food. Management really needs to think about what a sports bar really is. Carolina is playing and they have one, just one bartender/waitress working. This is not a bust on the girl working her but off, but that she is taking care of 30 people and running drinks to all the tables and running food from the kitchen. Wake up owners/managers!!!!
We hosted our company Christmas party at King Mackerels the other night, and it was an absolute triumph from beginning to end! The planning was effortless and seamless. Meeting with Joe, the head chef, was a highlight—he offered a wealth of options and truly listened to my vision for the menu. He took my ideas and elevated them beautifully! The charcuterie spread was impressive: an 8 ft x 3 ft display brimming with premium meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts, homemade jellies, and all the essentials. For mains, we savored perfectly executed chicken Parmesan, chicken piccata, and pecan-crusted grouper, paired with two delectable pasta varieties. Every bite was bursting with flavor and crafted with evident passion. To amp up the fun, we included a mashed potato bar that was a huge hit with everyone. Joe checked in multiple times to ensure all was well, and the kitchen team's dedication shone through in every detail. Parker and Brooke were stellar behind the bar, keeping drinks flowing with genuine smiles, witty banter, and impeccable service. They tracked orders accurately for our festive gathering. Wrapping up was smooth and hassle-free. Jen, the event coordinator, was phenomenal. Her communication was spot-on before, during, and after the event. She brought our vision to life flawlessly—from festive decorations and setup to cleanup and emceeing the night. It exceeded all expectations! King Mackerels graciously closed off a section of the restaurant for our private enjoyment, creating a cozy, exclusive vibe. As a delightful surprise, Lonnie Britton performed on the outdoor patio, serenading us with blues, Motown, country tunes, and hilarious jokes—it was the perfect unplanned touch. They even facilitated Enchanted Reflections photo stand in the entry to the surprise and joy of our party goers. Kudos to the entire King Mackerels team! With outstanding staff, exquisite food, a lively atmosphere, and stunning views of the Morehead Waterfront, it's an ideal spot for any event. If you're planning one, connect with Jen or the crew—you won't be disappointed!
King Mackerels was an unexpected great find. We didn't set out to go there but more ended up there since we were traveling out of season and pretty much everything else was closed. They were offering a limited menu but gave us an additional off menu option that we happily accepted. We started with the Buffalo Chicken Dip as a glib "well let's just see what this is" but it was really good. The grouper basket was amazing. My traveling companions ordered burgers and they raved too. It was a chill, comfortable atmosphere where it seemed like locals just hung out and enjoyed life. Definitely on the list for next year's trip. Next time going with intent!
