Outstanding food by outstanding people. I had the ribs which were incredible, juicy with a perfectly sweet sauce. Mac and cheese was delicious and green beans were the best I’ve ever had. I can’t believe I’m shouting out green beans in a review but they were really that good! Can’t wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. This place is an absolute gem.
Called in an order for the fried chicken, based on the reviews I read. They told me 45 minutes. I gave them 50. I still had to wait another 30+ minutes, but you know what? I would wait 2 plus hours for this food. It's that good. The other reviews (and mine) are not hyperbole. I've had fried chicken at some of the best places in the country: Gus's in Memphis, Willie Mae's in New Orelans, Prince's Hot Chicken in Nasheville, and more, and I think I would put Big J's Bubba-Q chicken in the top 5, especially when you put hot sauce on it. And the ribs are amazing too. Fall off the bone tender. I would highly recommend this place.
Big J threw down on the grill. I got the ribs and my fiancee got the brisket cause we like to share. the macaroni and cheese was bussin bussin. it slapped hard. the sauce was delicious. some of the best ribs I've ever had. the seasoning was incredible. delicious hush puppies. these guys are friendly and truly love what they do. you should def try a plate here.
The pulled pork wasnt dry but juicyand flavorful, butter potatoes were not soggy but firm, and the mack and cheese had extra cheese on it. Def will comeback, higher in price but good in quality and portion size
Best barbecue I’ve had in a while! Highly recommend the pulled pork! So savory and delicious! You could tell that they really care about the food they make!
Got a hankerin' for fried chicken? We heard Big J's Bubba-Q was the place to go, and it did not disappoint. Don't just drive by because it looks like a hole in the wall place. We'll, it is a hole in the wall place, but the fried chicken was excellent!! I got the two-piece white, my wife got the two-piece dark. Our sides were mac-and-cheese, baked beans, fries, and fried okra. They must brine their chicken in some super secret recipe - chicken was super moist, even the breast. And the sides were excellent, especially the fried okra. Don't be in a hurry if you order on-site - fried chicken is made to order, and it took ours 30 minutes. But it was worth the wait. And the couple that helped us - I assume they were the owners - were the nicest people. Looking for a white-napkin dining experience? This is not your place. Looking for excellent food with a no-frills experience? This is your place. I look forward to returning and trying the BBQ, but it will be tough to NOT get the fried chicken again.
Tucked away on sweetened creek road is one of Asheville's best BBQ places I've ever had. No, it's not Bears, Moe's, or Doc Browns, and no 12 bones couldn't hold a candle to Big J's Bubba-Q. First time here, and I've been in Asheville for years. This place knows what good BBQ is. The brisket was so succulent. The baked mac n cheese, the fried okra to the coleslaw is so good you'll drink the juice when you finish it, even the hush puppies were great. Finally, I have found the best BBQ in Asheville. Look no further and accept no substitutes. Thanks for the delicious BBQ 🙏🏻 keep doing God's work.
Ok, here is the deal. If you want anything other than the BBQ plate order an hour before you arrive. Everything is cooked to order so depending on what you ordered it could take an hour. I will tell you we waited an hour for the most amazing fried chicken I think I have ever had. It reminded me of the fried chicken from my childhood when I used to hang out at Aunt Fanny's Cabin and restaurant in Smyrna, Georgia off Campbell Road back in the seventies. This chicken I ordered is what seemed to be a half chicken fried, absolutely amazing. The the BBQ and sides were great as well but oh my the fried chicken. Outdoor seating only in the shade at picnic tables so plan accordingly.
