7 years agoThis is no longer called Cafe Borinquen. It is now Borin Cuba, a newly opened Cuban and Puerto Rican restaurant. My only regret is that I did not photograph the Crea La Mofongo. The Shrimp Mofongo was excellent and its presentation beautiful. It was served with a choice of two sides. I had the Tostones and the Pigeon Pea Rice. My husband selected the Red Beans and White Rice. The portions were large and hot, fresh bread was served while we waited for our entrees. We topped it off with Flan de Coco and Tembleque desserts. Everything was excellent. The owner and wait staff welcomed us and checked on us several times during our meal. On a scale of one to five stars, they exceeded every standard and in my opinion deserved ten stars. We will definitely return!

8 years agoI was in FT Lauderdale for 2 days and wanted Puerto Rican Dinner as that is what I’m used to eating at home. I went to Empanada Loca day one and it was great. I went to Cafe Borinquen the 2nd day. I was shocked at the cost per plate. $17. I figured the food and service must make up for the cost. Service was Sub-par. We spoke both English and Spanish to our waiter and he still managed to comprehend. Never have us our Malta we asked for and the plates are small. The food was not bad. But it wasn’t great. My Yellow rice was over cooked and my wife’s white rice was under cooked. The beans were packed with flavor but were watery. The pork chops had a good flavor but not packed with flavor like they should be. All in all it filled my craving but I would have rather went to the restaurant I went to the first day but it was closed.

8 years agoThis place is AMAZING! We had the nicest server, who had his hands full with our large and loud party of 9. All of us ordered the main big platter and it had to of been the best thing I have ever ordered from any restaurant in Broward County, the flavors were absolutely spot on. It brought back so many memories of my great grandmother's cooking that even my great grandfather (who is 93yrs old, and her husband) ate like we haven't seen since she was alive. At the end, we all had some coconut flan, and I have to say, I've had many flans before, but I've never had one so creamy and flavorful before. I can't praise this place enough. Thank you for such for a great time it made us feel like old times, something we don't get experience very often with my family.

8 years agoI travel a lot and I like to support my PR people by eating at PR establishments. I googled this location and it was ny first and ladt time. The basic white rice was very hard, two pasteles were smaller than your one typical PR pastel. My wife order chicken and rice and beans and it wasn't good either. On the top of it, it was very expensive and not enough food for the money or taste. The server was very nice but they need a better cook. I don't recommend this Puerto Rican restaurant.

8 years agoThis place was absolutely AMAZING! The food was phenomenal and it was very nice of the chef to step out of the kitchen and meet us when he heard we too were all the same nationality and not from FL. From the moment we stepped in until we stepped out it was outstanding! I recommend this restaurant to all those staying in the area...

9 years agoI just stopped in with my wife and kids. Where we feasted on the delicious dishes of my Homeland. The chef/owner and Desiree came out to see us and all we can do to express our thanks for such a wonderful meal. This is my home base from now on!! Best to make it yours,too.

9 years agoWell to start the people are very awesome the owner is outstanding the food is incredible the zazon is out of this world but and there's always a but the price is way too expensive. That's why Puerto Rican restaurants don't last too long cuz the food is awesome but the prices are way too high. All I ask for was for platanos soup 3 mojitos 2 coconut flans and just an appetizer platter we didn't even has the actual real food and it was $62 that's a lot of money. The appetizer platter was a sampler when you read the menu you think is regular size food and when they bring the platter is mini zise samples for $18 thats way to expensive. Light eyes set default the flavor of the food is very good but because of the price I will not go back to this place. 😢
