Had a wonderful lunch there a few days ago. I have always enjoyed French food so I thought I would try this place in Winter Park, and I am glad I did. I ordered the roasted canard duck. Delicious! It is cooked with a very tasty orange, honey with seasoning glaze and a vegetable pie type of side. My only criticism is that the portions are a bit small but I was led to believe that the dinner portions are larger. I hope so because it can be a bit pricey. Anyway, I finished the meal with a serving of creme brulee. Yummy! And the staff was excellent. Very helpful, courteous, caring, and professional. I recommend Cafe de France, and I must return soon for a dinner. Give them a try...you won't be disappointed!
Halibut special was spectactular! The terrine maison was the best. The creme brulee was the best as well. We will definitely return.
After coming for our reservation on time, we ordered appetizers and two of the venison special for the evening. After a 50 minute wait, our special arrived. When we asked about the appetizer, our server apologized since they were understaffed and said they would be brought out soon. We bit into our venison and found it cold. My wife chose to eat hers that way since the flavor was still good, while I sent mine back. Appetizers came, and were decent. Eventually my venison comes back, the same cuts and now visibly over cooked compared to before. I complained as much and the waitress took them away, only to bring them back saying that it only looked overcooked due to the kind of meat… despite looking plainly different before. It also tasted somewhat funny, my suspicion being that the sauce on it didn’t taste as good being recooked. Overall a poor experience, compared to the cost and what looked to be a very pleasant meal. I imagine this place could be very good when not understaffed, but they were this evening and did not take the right steps to make things right.
