We originally found this place on Uber and after doing a quick Google search, my other half insisted we had to try it in person. I’m so glad we did because it definitely lived up to the hype. The restaurant was very clean and well organized, which always makes the experience better right away. The food was the real highlight. The pork was packed with flavor, and the rice and beans tasted like a homemade recipe straight from grandma’s kitchen. The ribs were absolutely fire—tender and full of flavor. The steak was just okay, but everything else really stood out. The sweet plantains were perfectly cooked—soft, caramelized, and just the right amount of sweet. The passion fruit juice was refreshing and delicious. To finish, we ordered tres leches and flan, and both were a great way to end the meal. I also took pictures of the food because I’m a visual person and always appreciate seeing photos when reading reviews. Definitely a spot worth it.
Wow, Yum Yum Yummy 😋 Food. Just catered from this amazing restaurant for the first time and I guarantee it won't be the last. Caliente Deli makes hosting New Year's Eve Parties or any event easy. Thank you for such great food and service Happy 2026.

This place has gotten much better, honestly i stop going here because i didn't see them take care of the place as far as hygienics, and cleanliness and the food use to be exposed without a glass to cover it from everyone leaning over the food. I didn't like that at all. Plus the fact that they were on social media because someone found something not pleasant at all in their food, so that really turned me away, i just came back to this place a day ago, to see how or if any improvements at all were made, now I haven't seen inside their kitchen to see inside now, because you could before see inside their kitchen, but i have to say it looks like they have improved very much. I was a little impressed, i have to admit. I would go back once again to see and eat here now though. We'll see it looks like It has changed, and it's looks like for better. We'll see.
So! My cousin and I wanted Haitian food and this is what came up in New Haven. Caliente is in the hood but don’t let the outer appearance deter you from going in. The food is absolutely delicious! There’s a variety of cooked items like chicken, oxtail, pork, and seafood. There was different styles of rice and beans and lots of sides like plantains, salad, beet salad, avocado, shrimp, and so much more. I had the oxtail special and my cousin had the roasted chicken. The service was excellent and we devoured some of our lunch on site. I highly recommend Caliente if you want a taste of the Caribbean in the heart of Connecticut!
Visiting home and stopped by Caliente Deli on a whim! I'm from New Haven and didn't know this spot existed. My next visit will be intentional! Food was awesome and flavorful!! Pork chunks, stewed chicken, rice &beans, plaintains.... wonderful! Customer service made food even better! A must visit spot when I come back home.
First time ordering food here. I ordered the pepper steak and yellow rice with peas. The rice was okay, but the meat was well seasoned and very tender. I enjoyed it. The next time, I will order with white rice to see if it would taste different. Overall, it's a good place to get a quick meal.
Delicious food, excellent portions. Five-star, above and beyond, extraordinary staff... Three options for rice: black beans and rice, yellow rice with broth cooked in, and white rice. My go-to is the beef stew with yellow rice. I couldn't believe they could fit so much in one container. AND, there are many options, all authentic with excellent ingredients. Checkout the photos of the selections. It's not a buffet. They have staff that serve you.
