This vegan pho was absolutely wonderful — deeply flavourful, comforting, and full of freshness. The broth has that perfect balance. The vegetables and toppings were vibrant and generous, making every spoonful satisfying. Personally, pho makes the perfect dish when I am a bit low on energy and under the weather. The service was brilliant as well. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel looked after. We truly enjoyed our meal and will definitely be coming back.
A fabulous cafe style restaurant and when you enter the smell tantalising. The seating is close which gives an intimate feel and the service is exceptionally friendly. Anh, and Nhu were amazing severs. The menu is about 10 starters and the same for mains. We ordered the summer rolls and the combo soup, which were very very tasty. We’d absolutely go back. Remembering to take our beers with us, as the restaurant does not serve alcohol.
Average taste. Banh Mi bread is very dry. Banh Mi in general doesn’t look/smell/taste good. Bun Thit Nuong and Bun Cha Ha Noi also taste average. With the price we paid, a bit disappointed tbh.
I visited yesterday on my lunch break and enjoyed the Beef Pho Special and the Lemon Jasmine tea. Very delicious and great portion size! I would definitely recommend and will be back to try more of the menu. The items also came out really quick, so it was perfect for popping in at lunch when you're in town.
Great Vietnamese food at reasonable prices. I've been coming here a few times since it opened and even took my colleagues here, all of whom thought Cay The was excellent. This place has much more of a cafe / diner vibe as opposed to a restaurant which I actually prefer given the type of food served. Which is your typical Vietnamese Classics, Pho, Banh-Mi, Rice and Noodle based dishes. Having had the majority of them, I can honestly say that none of them have dissappointed. The pho is hearty and wholesome with plenty of broth, meat and veggie additions. The curry dish was tasty and comforting. The spring rolls, freshly cooked and crispy. The spring rolls were enriching and nourishing. The service is also good, they are very attentive and provide everything you need. What's better is that this place also is BYOB and don't charge corkage. This is amazing. What's great is that Abingdon needed a place like this to bring some variety to the scene and boy has Cay The delivered on that. If you're local and haven't been already, I would strongly recommend a visit and try as many of the dishes as you can. You won't be dissappointed!
2026 update: improving, beef stew was soulful! Cucumbers was frozen solid. Spring roll was amazing! Overall a lovely lunch. 2025: Alot better than expected, we have tried alot of asian food around Oxford (and in China) and our benchmark is quite high. We were hoping this new restaurant was not westernised too much...and to be fair its good, very good. The food is hot, fresh and tasty. We had noodle pho soup. Very filling one bowl. Alot better than PHO in Westgate Oxford. Once you compared the two places, you will realised this one on Stert Street is MUCH fresher and higher food quality. I will give it five stars when they change the slippery metal pointy chop sticks to plastic or wooden ones AND provide a proper wooden bamboo SOUP SPOON (PLEASE!)... The noodle soup broth is too tasty but can't enjoy it with a metal spoon! See photos. Overall, a fantastic good place to eat right here in Abingdon! Free parking behind it too! 👍🍜
Being Vietnamese heritage and yearning for comfort food, I discovered this restaurant newly opened in Abingdon. My friends recommended it so decided to order one of my favorite dishes. It was fresh, well presented and generous size. Service was efficient and polite. They seem to gather a good clientale and Saturday was a busy night so definitely book in advance. Being cafe style, I wouldn't recommend it to larger parties unless you book in advance so they can rearrange the tables to suit. I would like to return to try other dishes. I think it's a good introduction to people who never visited Vietnam before. Hopefully more people will visit our beautiful country with lovely people and amazing healthy yet tasty cuisine! Thank you for opening Vietnamese cuisine to Abingdon. It needed it!
First time trying Vietnamese food, a lively experience indeed, opted for the fried pork with noodles which was accompanied with a salad and very flavourful broth, the Vietnamese iced coffee was nice touch and very sweet. Tried the slow cooked beef dish as well which was delicious, definitely planning to come back to try the pho next time.
