See All ReviewsWe ordered Nihari, Peshawari karhai, plain, garlic, and roghni naan. Everything was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed every dish. The portion sizes were generous and great for sharing. They were also kind enough to keep the spice levels mild upon request, so our kids could enjoy the meal too. I couldn't see the receipt but I have a good feeling they didn't charge for the mango lassi that our kid got for take away. Ismail and Nabeel were both very attentive and made sure we had a reminiscing Karachi experience. Highly recommend!
We recently visited Colachi Restaurant and had an amazing experience. We ordered two different types of karahi chicken, along with malai boti, naan, garlic naan, and roghni naan. Everything tasted incredible. We’ve been to so many Pakistani restaurants across Southern California, and this place easily stands out in both flavor and quality for the price. The service was just as impressive as the food. Everyone was extremely attentive and welcoming no matter how many times we called them over to our table. There was a small mistake where one item was missed from our order, but they immediately apologized and said they would get it ready right away. We also asked for nihari, but it was not available. Even without it, the food was still beyond amazing. They may be a newer restaurant that has not been around for very long, but they are clearly putting in real effort when it comes to customer service and attention to detail. You can tell they truly care about giving customers a great experience. Overall, everything from the food to the service exceeded expectations, and we will definitely be going back again.
Some restaurants serve food. Colachi serves memory. I've traveled. I've eaten my way through a lot of cities. I know what Pakistani food is supposed to taste like when it isn't watered down for an American palate. Colachi is the only place in SoCal actually pulling it off. The weekend buffet is the real deal. Haleem first -- slow-cooked, deeply layered, ghee pooling on top, fried onions and ginger and green chili on the side. One spoon and I'm back on a Karachi street, chaand raat, plate in hand. The nihari is the one that gives it away -- that perfect balance of sonth, sounf, and zeera that's specific to Karachi. You can taste each one without any of them shouting. The meat shreds at a glance, the gravy sits exactly where it should. This is the masala work most places skip because it takes time and instinct. The BBQ holds up too. Bihari boti with proper smoke, melting Gola kababs, chicken tikka with charred edges and soft centers. Then the menu shifts. The moong ki daal and channay bring a Multani touch -- earthier, slower, more patient. The daal has a tarka you can smell before you see it. The channay are dark and serious. No apology. This is dhaba food, not restaurant food pretending to be dhaba food. That range is the thing. Most places pick one city and stop. Colachi gives you Karachi and Multan on the same plate. Eating here honestly feels like a Karachi-to-Lahore road trip without a passport. And then there's Uncle's "Khaloos". 10/10 on his own. A real Pakistani knows the food truly taste exceptional when you put hospitality around it -- the greeting at the door, the beta khana kaisa laga, the extra plate before you ask. That's mehman-nawazi, and you can't fake it. Uncle Khaloo doesn't fake it. Most places get one half right. Colachi gets both. If you live in SoCal and haven't eaten here, you're not eating Pakistani food. You're eating an idea of it. Go hungry. You've been missing out.
