My wife & I finally made it to Crystal's Cafe for lunch today after seeing it around the neighborhood for years. It's a good sized spot with plenty of seating, and we grabbed a table in the back room where it was nice and quiet. The place has that older establishment feel to it, a little musty like you'd expect. Our waitress got to us quick with menus and took our drink order. They had cans of coke and ice instead of bottles, and no unsweet tea, but that's fine. While we waited, I noticed they had a cool collection of old candy machines. We ordered the Mexican plates (Two Enchiladas,a Taco, a Chalupa, rice, beans, & tortillas). Food came out hot and was solid, the kind of meal you get at a good mom and pop spot in San Antonio. The enchiladas had that processed cheese, but the rice was fluffy and the taco and chalupa shells were homemade and crispy. Really good stuff. Service was a little slow even though it wasn't busy, but you know how it goes. Two Mexican plates and two cokes came to $33, which is a fair deal for the amount of food. If I'm back in the area, I'd definitely stop by again.
Not much to say. Food was good. Not my favorite, but okay. Service was great. Small place. Bad neighborhood.
