See All ReviewsI hardly put reviews on anything but I am very upset. I had gone to eat here last week and tell me why, when I walk in, there is just an older man, trimming pea pods, out in the open. That man, ended up being our server. He was a tall gentleman with gray hair, and I heard him tell another table he had been working there for quite a few years. He came to get our drink order and was walking away before we could tell him we were ready to order. My friend that I went with, asked for her food to be spicy (she said they add different peppers) and with a different sauce. She has been going to his restaurant a lot longer than me and they have always been able to accommodate her request. I saw him write it down, and he walked away. He came back with meals and her plate was wrong. We politely told him that she wanted it spicy and with the different sauce once again. He snatches the plate away from her and walks away without saying anything. We just sat there in shock. He comes back 10 mins later and tosses the plate in front of her, with some of the rice flying off onto the floor. We said thank you and he just walked away, without saying anything. He came back with a broom and started sweeping at our feet. I do not know if this was a language barrier think since my friend spoke Spanish and I was translating for her. For someone who just didn’t like us because he went on to talk to the table next to us like nothing happened. He ruined this establishment for us
I hardly leave reviews but Dai-Tung is one of my favorite restaurants whenever I’m craving Chinese food and there are so many negative reviews when you’re looking up Dai-Tung D: Inside, the lighting of the restaurant is dim, giving it a soothing ambiance. It’s usually quiet, making it good for conversation. Dai Tung is a family style restaurant, and something I notice at times is people ordering entrees for themself and having the plate in front of them. The portions are very large because it’s meant to be shared for more than one person. E.g food goes in the middle and serve your plate as much as you want. My personal favorites are the crab puffs, sesame chicken, and the fish fillet with mandarin sauce. You can also bring your own bottle of wine and they’ll bring out wine glasses for you. I usually dine in here for large groups, but ordered take out for Easter Sunday. The food was well prepared and faced no issues as I picked up the order right before closing. I’ve read a lot in other people’s reviews is the service— the culture in China is very different compared to over here in the West. Western-style of service is very consistent in how your meal is and if you need anything else whereas good service in China is having your meal delivered to your table. It’s not only Dai Tung but other Chinese restaurants will prioritize the quality and efficiency of the customer receiving their food. It’s also become a stereotype that bad service = good food, but to receive good service at a Chinese restaurant is usually at the expensive fine dining restaurants. There’s also those reviews of people finding things in their food. In all the times I’ve been to Dai Tung: I’ve never faced any problems and I think it reflects more of a small staff than a dirty kitchen because realistically, most people wouldn’t want to see what goes on behind the scenes in any restaurant kitchen. Hope you give this place a chance.
I had a great experience at Dai Tung. The food was flavorful, especially the entrée, it came out hot, fresh, and with a really good sauce. The portion size was generous, and everything was plated nicely. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because the veggie roll was a bit cold on the inside even though the outside was hot. Not a deal-breaker, but noticeable. Overall, though, the service was friendly, the food tasted great, and I’d definitely come back. Just hoping the veggie rolls get a little more heat next time!
