See All ReviewsI really wanted to love this place but it didn't quite live up to expectations. The bartender was very nice and helpful in choosing a wine. I tried both of the Rieslings they had but they were both too acidic and dry for my taste. The gouda dumplings were just ok. I've had better. The chicken sate was fatty and should have been cooked a bit more to burn off the fat. The fries were very good and I am not a huge fan of fries in general. The herb may dipping sauce was great. My favorites were the gouda mashed potatoes (excellent) and the cauliflower gouda fondue - I would go back just to have that again! My husband got the Nasi Goreng (fried rice). He said the pork belly was fatty and boring and the rice was very spicy. He likes spicy food but wasn't impressed with the dish. It eas just spicy fried rice. We tried the almond spekkok for dessert which was unique and tasty but not amazing. The bill was quute expensive. Everything was priced higher than it should have been. This is an interesting place with some unique flavors but definitely didn't make it into our favorites list.
We allllmost didn't go here and we would've missed out! It's kind of a stretch to choose Dutch food in a sea of authentic Italian and fresh Mexican restaurants. But what a chill, relaxed environment. Everyone at De Quay was conspiring to make our experience excellent: bartender Noel, host, chef. It's comforting food with familiar ingredients blended with bright spots of Indonesian.
Seriously — an amazing restaurant experience. Every aspect - the wine, the apps, the entree, and dessert — All exceptional. The service complimented how great the food was. I will 100 percent be coming back here. I loved it and may have become one of my favorites in all of Chicago.
