See All ReviewsI am extremely disappointed with my experience at District 804 Kitchen & Social today. As a disabled individual who relies on a trained service dog, I felt that my rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) were not respected. Upon arrival, we were immediately informed by management that my service dog would not be allowed into the establishment because the owner and some guests allegedly have allergies to dogs. However, allergies and fear of dogs are not valid reasons under the ADA to deny access to a service animal. What made the situation even more confusing was that my service dog and I had previously attended a drag brunch at this same establishment without any issues. During today’s interaction, management even acknowledged that they remembered seeing us there before. After we explained our rights as service dog handlers and stated that we were willing to have law enforcement come out to help clarify the law, management changed their position and said we could enter, but only if we sat in a separate room away from everyone else. We explained that segregating a person with a disability because they use a service animal is generally not considered an appropriate accommodation under the ADA. Rather than continue arguing, we chose to leave and take our party of 7 and business elsewhere. I believe businesses have a responsibility to understand and comply with federal disability laws. No customer should have to educate management about their legal rights simply to enjoy a meal. I hope District 804 Kitchen & Social takes the time to properly train its staff on ADA service animal requirements so that future guests do not have a similar experience.
I come here every Friday for line dancing, and unfortunately the same issues happen week after week. The place is always packed, which is expected, but they consistently seem understaffed. There’s usually only one bartender, and the service reflects that—slow, overwhelmed, and often rude. The bartender’s attitude is disappointing, especially considering how busy the nights get. A little professionalism and courtesy would go a long way. When there are servers (which isn’t always the case), the customer service is just as poor—unfriendly, inattentive, and lacking basic hospitality. What’s frustrating is that this isn’t a one-time experience—it’s consistent. For a business that hosts line dancing every week and clearly brings in a steady crowd of paying customers, you would think there would be better preparation. People are coming out, supporting the business, and spending their hard-earned money every Friday. The atmosphere should reflect that appreciation. There’s a lot of potential here because the crowd and energy are great, but the service side needs serious improvement. Proper staffing and better customer service would make a huge difference.
