Everyone was so friendly and food was good. Husband has a chicken fried steak loved it. I had the turkey dressing and gravy was a little salty. Dessert was very good! Sides were good mac n cheese broccoli and rice mashed potatoes yams delish.
Amazing food and restaurant is owned by a sweet hard working family. This was my second time here and it was just as good as the first time. Next time I'm in Lubbock I will definitely be back.
What a meal! My son had seen several posts on Facebook so we tried it today. I had liver and onions. Hadn’t had in years so this was a nice treat. Moist, tender with just the right amount of onions and gravy (a lot!!!). The collard’s were tender with ham and smoked sausage. Another welcome treat. Blackeye peas were also tender and flavorful. Cornbread to die for and cake. Really fair prices and great service. Go ahead and purchase the to go boxes because you will need them. We will definitely be back.
The soul food is top notch. You need to go try this place because you’ll go back so you can try all the other foods. Super nice staff and they kept checking to see if we needed anything. $32 for all of this plus a drink and dessert!
The Good: 1. Customer service was great! Everyone was pleasant and I felt very welcomed. 2. My favorite side of the six was the green beans. 3. The price point is inexpensive. The Bad: 1. Majority of the sides were extremely bland. 2. The Mac and cheese was overcooked and didn’t really have a cheesy taste. 3. The greens were cold—not like warm, but actually cold. 4. The fish was the most disappointing because it didn’t even look like what I have seen in other customer’s pictures. The fish was very salty and was cooked too fast, yet had a little of burnt look on the exterior. It had multiple bones even though I specifically asked for fillet. The Ugly: 1. When I walked into the establishment and looked at the food in the cafeteria’s line, most of the food did not look appetizing. I don’t believe anything was fresh, but I wanted to support a locally owned business. 2. There were customers eating in the restaurant, but ironically they left so much food on their plate as if they didn’t quite enjoy their meal. I really was hoping that the soul food would be top notch, but it was very disappointing in various ways.
Well this is soul food and is good. I love the greens , carrots, rice broccoli, peas, cornbread, meatloaf .. I enjoyed my meal and the sweet tea was sweet. Some meals maybe salty for some folks but I enjoyed it. Next time I will share my plate because this a lot of food. Cobbles and cake I enjoyed too ..
Food was so good and very affordable. We got 1 meat choice, 5 sides, a biscuit or cornbread, dessert and a drink for $12.99. The staff was very friendly and easy to talk to. They explained how everything worked. They even have TV dinners available starting at $7
The staff at Doc's is so friendly and inviting. They were eager to help and get everything just right. Be ready to eat until you are stuffed. If you get 5 sides and a meat it is a bunch of food. It would be nice if they offered a smaller meal for a bit cheaper. The sides were very yummy. I really enjoyed the ribs. My husband was a bit disappointed. (He is spoiled by the old Lees downtown. ) Get there early they ran out of cobbler so we missed that part of our meal. If you have a big eater in the fam bring them here.
