Decent and edible but wasn’t the best. Service was so so, best to bring cash
Always delighted to find Teochew restaurants in the US and it’s always an automatic 5 stars. Double Happiness is a real no frills hole-in-the-wall serving authentic food that tastes like home. The menu is written in English, Vietnamese, Thai 🙂↕️, and Chinese - love to see it! The real star of the meal for me was the fried garlic oil (wish I snapped a pic)… just perfection, I kept reaching for scoop after scoop… it’s a must-add to every dish… trust.
You’re here because of the known food not the atmosphere. It looks the same for many many years. It’s owned by an old couple, it does take a bit of time for ordering. Including cleaning up tables. We always ordered the usual: radish with fried egg and their egg noodles
A mom-and-pop-style noodle spot in the heart of Argyle. I absolutely loved the flavor of the mixed dry noodles — simple yet incredibly flavorful and tastes just like home! The turnip cake with egg was also a standout and quite hearty. Note that this place accepts cash only and closes early at 5 pm.
If I could give -stars I would. It is absolutely horrible. Full of msg and then most ridiculously small portions! Frozen shrimp, frozen squid and fish ball, all one tiny piece each on a cheap tasting flat rice noodles with no flavor but just msg. The store owner is impolite as well. Look at the size in the photo. 12 dollars for this?!?? Miserable amount of pork meat too! Stay away and save your time coming here. Should be shut down. Oh, flies flying around condiments too.
This is one of my favourite Mom-&-Pop, hole-in-the-wall restaurants on Argyle! It's been here for many decades and has the best Mee Pork Noodle Soup (or no soup version)! They also have some of the best freshly fried You Tiao (aka Long John Chinese breadsticks) on the street! This is my go-to for Cantonese style comfort food for a bowl of Egg Noodle Soup and Fried Turnip Cake with Egg (see photos in my review!) Be warned, it is cash only! And the auntie and uncle that work there aren't going to go out of their way making small talk and pleasantries (though as a regular, they do finally strike up conversations with me...which I feel after years I've finally earned this badge!) Hahaha.
Best yellow noodle soup #1 with Chinese breadsticks and fried shrimp
No frills! It's been in the neighborhood for probably 30 years and still own by the same family. The food still taste the same!
