See All ReviewsDecent sandwich, but misses the mark on a traditional Corned Beef Special. Tonight I tried Dov-a Licious at the Southern Market. Growing up eating Corned Beef Specials in the Philadelphia Northern Liberties neighborhood, I got super excited when I saw it on the menu. I ordered the "New Yorker" after being told it had more meat than the "Lancaster" version. Unfortunately, it missed the mark on authenticity. At first glance, I was disappointed to see the rye bread was toasted. A traditional corned beef special is never toasted, so my expectations immediately dropped. I was also pretty let down by the amount of corned beef on the "New Yorker." Given how skimpy it was by traditional Jewish deli standards, I can’t imagine how little meat comes on the standard Lancaster size. The Verdict: The sandwich itself didn't taste bad, but it definitely wasn't worth $22. I’d try this place again to sample other menu items, but I’ll be skipping the corned beef special.
I ordered the Corned beef special and my word it’s delicious! I also got 2 black and white cookies, one was gonna be for my husband. Honestly I don’t think it’s gonna make it home! I can’t wait to try the New York New York special next time! 🤤
I got the Lancaster Rueben for $18 and, sadly, it wasn’t too good. The bread felt on the brink between toasted and warmed, the sauerkraut was barely noticeable, and the meat tasted poor. The thousand island dressing was nice, though. Overall, it was a small sandwich for the price and in my opinion not worth the amount I paid. The service was great and likewise the atmosphere was nice.
