See All ReviewsIt's quite possible that the most readily available food in East Texas is street tacos. Heck, there might be less dollar stores than taco spots around here. However, there's just one true OG. One name more recognizable than any other... Edgar's Big Taco, AKA "beer store tacos", AKA "31 tacos". This isn’t your typical street taco, though. In fact, it's FAR from it. Many would argue that it's not even an authentic taco, but more of a TexMex version. Some would even claim it's a burrito, but that's not what the creator called it. Corn tortilla? Nope. Flour. Need a baker's dozen to tackle hunger? Nope. Just one. "Big Taco" rings 100% true. Just meat, onions, and cilantro? Also nope. Beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomato, add sour cream. That's how we're doing this. Douse it in salsa verde that is just spicy enough to make your brow sweat, and you've done it right. It's a humble place, that hasn't changed one bit since 1995, but we all know the hole-in-the-wall spots are always the best. Warm greetings, prompt service, Texas A&M pride, consistently delicious tacos, and a "thank you, friend" is what you can expect. That has never changed either. So, if you have somehow managed to make it this far in life without grabbing a Big Taco when you're down Hwy. 31 towards Kilgore, make it a priority. They do also have a Kilgore location, and a food truck, but the original location is the one for me, personally. Execution: 9 The Bite: 9 The Vibe: 8 Expectation vs Reality: 10 Final verdict: Worth the stop every time Hwy. 31 calls your name.
Top 5 Tacos in East TX. Never disappointed, the tacos are flavorful and that green sauce is on point.
Been going there since inception, the best around. If you want real Hot sauce green the best around. Want him in Tyler would front him as a silent partner venture. Respect for Edgar. Ms Bennie Latch.
