Amazing crew here and LOVE that they know how to make my favorite dish correctly and with the best spices around.
Haven’t been here in a couple years but stopped by on our way to a game. We were in a bit of a hurry. Our server was the best, food was fresh, authentic and amazing. Highly recommend!!
We've had really great Mexican food around home but this was truly incredible. The "spicy" green sauce I was given when asking them to spice it up isn't overly spicy but has great flavor! If it was bottled we'd be bringing it home with us! Just because your in northern Minnesota don't hesitate to try them out! Great food, great service, and atmosphere. So good we're going back for lunch tomorrow before we head home!
The restaurant seems to be somewhat busy majority of the time but I feel like it also contributes to the vibe/ambiance of the restaurant with music in the background. The menu is great as it’s got pictures, and multiple options of each sections such as enchiladas, appetizers, sides, salads, quesadillas, burritos, and more. Where you get seated you’ll also get a bowl of chips and salsa. I got their No. 15 in the ‘Combinations’ section which has 1 quesadilla, 1 chicken enchilada, 1 beef enchilada covered with cheese sauce and crema salad which was extremely delicious and was a great portion as well to savour it but also not be too full. Overall, a great restaurant to eat in when in Grand Rapids.
The service was absolutely fantastic here! The food was hot and fresh and tasted great! The prices are good, not great. They're a very large portions so I can understand why the prices are a little bit higher, but if you're looking for a cheap place to eat, this is not it. The atmosphere is pretty good except for the entrance is a little bit weird because it is definitely a one-person at a time through due to the narrowness of the hallway. The servers were incredibly friendly. Happy and seem like they were having a good time working there. You can hear really loud and happy music coming from the kitchen. Everybody here just seemed to have a smile plastered on the face the entire time we were there. They were very nice and accommodating to my small kids. The waitress seemed thrilled to be serving babies. I really can't say enough good about this place.
Wow. Just wow. This meal was absolutely delicious, and the lunch specials are unbeatable! Got the chimichanga plate and the #10 lunch combo and including tip it was $25 (we got waters to drink). It was our first time visiting and we will be back!! Often!
Everything we ordered was wonderful. We were happy to find great Mexican restaurant up north - the waitress was covering so many tables and not missing a beat. She was doing a awesome job keeping up while it was extremely busy. Not only that but she memorized our order and didn't forget any of the changes we requested. She is a very sweet girl with tattoos on her forearms. (If she reads reviews) we want her to know she was doing a great job. She paid special attention to our sons food allergies and made sure everything he got was ok for him. We really appreciated that. UPDATE: 4 months after our 1st and only visit we had the same waitress. She remembered us and that we were at the same table as before. Again the service & food was wonderful and she is amazing.
About 3 months ago we were coming back from the Northern part of the Iron Range heading home to the Twin Cities when we decided we needed to stop for lunch. We didn't want "fast food" we wanted a sit down meal so my daughter Googled places to eat in Grand Rapids, El Potro came up. However, in the meantime my friend who was traveling with us convinced us we should eat at this other place (Americana food), since she had been there several times in the past. OMG! That place was horridly outdated, it smelled, it was disgusting! The menu was sticky & the prices were way too high!! I didn't even sit down I was the first one heading for the door!! So back the direction we came to park at El Potro! Yay! We were immediately greeted and would have been seated promptly too but we were having so much fun "Oohhhing & Awwwing" at all the South of the Border wall hangings, paintings & kitschy items. We loved the decor!! And the chairs are so festive! We were the only ones there at the time since it was like 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was a young gal who was very nice and answered a lot of our questions about the place, the food & the owners since we were passing through. It took us a while to decide what we wanted to eat since they have so much to offer! It's authentic Mexican cuisine using fresh vegetables, recipes that were passed down and others that were enhanced. The prices too were an eye opener... SO reasonable... for all the food we received we took easily half of it home!! Our food was so delicious and it went well with the tall cervezas we ordered!! I'm told that they also have a restaurant in Bemidji and are looking at opening one in the future near the north metro (Twin Cities). Either way, if and when I get up that way again I'm certainly stopping back!!
