a week agoi can’t believe i lived this long without coming here! the vibe is so incredible and everything is so cute. Such a classic diner omg! We got the silly slam, shrimp melt, and monte cristo. also a milkshake. Apparently the shrimp melt was really good.

a month agoIn a city so excited to be gentrified and commercialized with restaurants and cafes that specialize Door Dash orders and mundane uninspiring food and decor - Five Corners Cafe represents a beautifully simple, yet captivating dining experience that has slowly been fading away from the place I have called home my whole life. The Lower Mainland has unfortunately become a victim to incredibly ugly, boring property and business expansion. However, there are a few special small businesses and restaurants left that give you that sense of that beautifully cozy, mundane and special nirvana that you used to feel when you would go out for a cup of coffee. The beauty of the mundane. Five Corners has that. From the moment I walked by and went inside, the feeling of history and sincere character was immediate. Very reminiscent of John’s Place in Victoria, Five Corners invokes the desire to share stories, discussions and experiences with someone over a cup of coffee and breakfast, but being surrounded by art and gadgets of old. Surrounded by history. Something so mundane and simple, but yet a beautiful experience I sincerely desire and miss. Something that I would have to go to Bons off Broadway for in Vancouver, or Fresgo’s in Surrey, before its unfortunate ownership changeover. The food is not five-star, nor does it claim to be. My burger was slightly burnt, fries were classic diner fries, and the coffee hit the perfect spot. Go to Five Corners with your friends in the morning for breakfast. Bring cash. Go by yourself and bring a book. Just go there. Support your local businesses that support their history, and admire what the soul of a restaurant really is. Thank you, Five Corners for the most pleasant surprise.

a month agoWent with my mom who was in from out of province. Was quite busy, but in spite of that the sound was not overwhelming. Less then 5 minutes to be seated, and they let us swap to a booth when it opened up. I had eggs Benny, 10/10 would order again. No issue with parking, and we were there on a farmers market day, they didn't mind us parking as we checked out the market up the road. Also let me hit their washrooms when we came back. Would recommend, would come back.

Edited 3 months agoMeh. Ultimately its the food that just isn't that great. With a few tweaks this could be my favorite diner. It feels like another place resorting to less during hard times. Ive been here several times prior to my review, to be fair in case it was what I ordered or a bad day, and it just doesn't live up to the hype for me. Its passable but just not as fab as it could be. I really did want to love it but each time I am disappointed and I'm honestly not too hard to satisfy. The service depends on who you get. The younger woman is authentic and kind and gives great care in service. (Love seeing what she is wearing. So creative.) The food can take awhile so be sure you have time. The music is good in keeping with the theme, and not too loud. Hard to find parking in this area and busy on weekends when both parking and tables are pretty much a waiting game. Cash only. Early 2pm close. There are a number places in the area with more variety, higher quantity and quality food on the plate for the same money. They used to have the best coffee, but I think maybe the supplier was changed as my last visit it just wasnt the same. Ive heard amazing things about the shakes, but ive never had one. Side note...do any od the dishes come with more than a tablespoon of hollandaise? The quantity is scant imho. The consistent critique here of the same issues indicates it may be time to try and address those few things and truly be the best cafe in town. It wouldn't take much effort to tweak a few things. a year agoThe only thing is a small thing I think that they could improve their eggs Benedict sauce, but the staff is so nice. The view is good. The parking is great if you wanna place it feels like a 50s diner or like that diner that your uncle used to bring to your dad it’s great. I went on a Sunday. It wasn’t busy. I could tell that these peopleknow how to cook a good breakfast. It was steaming hot. I’ll be back bringing some

a year agoFive stars for atmosphere because this quirky corner café has been here forever, and I like the unique style very much. The five stars for food are because the burger was one of the best I've had in North America and eclipsed really only by one I had in Paris last year (not a fair comparison because they can cook it rare in France but not here, by law). And the service was perfect. They were extremely busy today it being Saturday, but everyone got attention.

a year agoThe regulars may not appreciate my comments as the Five Corners Café is already a pretty busy place, but I think it is one of the best breakfast places I’ve ever been to. I love the fact that it is a classic family run cafe that means they care about the food and their customers. The breakfast we had; a Spanish omelette and Huevos Rancheros, were some of the best versions I have ever seen, and the flavours were authentic. The coffee seems bottomless as my son and I sat there for over an hour and the waitress just kept topping us up. I understand it has a cadre of loyal regulars and I understand why. It is what we all want in a local café: great food, good coffee, and a cozy place to hang out with family and friends. You know a place has a loyal following when there is a wall of longtime customers’ photos on the wall. I will be back soon, and hope to become a loyal fan.
