The Higginsville Trail (Woodfern Section) is a hiking trail on what once was the South Branch Railroad line. The trail begins next to the Higginsville Bridge where there is limited parking and proceeds 1.2 miles to Woodfern road. The rail bed continues east and again intersects Woodfern Rd at 1.6 miles before entering the town of Neshanic Station, but it’s currently unclear if that’s on private land as there’s a chain across the trail. The rail bed also continues west from the Higginsville Bridge but that is clearly marked as private land. The trail parallels the Raritan River to its south and the still active Lehigh Valley Railroad to its north. So it’s great for train spotting too. It’s an easy out and back hike.
