I was just passing through and stopped here to grab a bite. Loaded potato was great and so was their mac and cheese. The brisket had little to no fat at all and tasted great! Everyone was also very friendly and I think all the decor was charming and historical
We spent $200+ for a bunch of meat and sides for a family gathering. The brisket was so tough, we couldn't eat it with the supplied plastic-ware. The sausage was ok, the potato salad was more like mashed potatoes than potato salad. The beans were flavorless. The BBQ sauce was good. We would have done better at Dickey's.
Discovered this spot while visiting town and had a blast! The barbecue and desserts left us wanting more! Can’t say enough about the owner’s hospitality. He even sang us a song! Highly recommend stopping by for a bite!!
The highlight was the freshly fried okra — crispy and perfectly seasoned. When we walked in, the Clorox smell was overpowering. The outdated décor was full of taxidermy animals. The staff was downright rude — no greeting, no smile — which didn’t help the atmosphere. The barbecue tasted overly smoky in an unpleasant way. The mac and cheese was fresh — out of a box. Located down the hill, it’s easy to overlook if you’re not watching for the signs.
Review: I stopped by this BBQ spot and ordered the ribs and chicken. The ribs were tender and packed with flavor — really good! The chicken was a little dry, but when the owner came by and asked how everything was, I told him about it. Without hesitation, he said, “Let me get you another piece.” That kind of kindness and customer service is rare these days. The new piece of chicken was great, and it showed they truly care about their customers and their food. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. Overall, I really like this place — good food, good people, and a great experience. I definitely recommend it!
Maybe … I went on a bad day. Drove here because of the reviews and rating but was disappointed with the bbq! The ribs were a bit overdone but taste was good - the brisket was dry and not a lot taste without the bbq sauce, the 2 sides were good. The atmosphere and the staff were great, the location has a lot of history, but with a 4.7 and $29 for a 2 meat plate …. I expected better. I’ll try them again on a better day, hopefully
If you're looking for the best BBQ in Texas, it's 5 minutes from the interstate and worth every second. My family and I were going back home and stopped in. We were immediately greeted by the most friendly staff imaginable, with smiles they made it seem as if we had been family. The owner even checked on us and made conversation. After talking for a minute, he brought a guitar out and played some songs for my kids. All in all, a very family-friendly spot, I would drive 3 hours to eat at any day. Here is to Hill Country BBQ and to years of more delicious BBQ to come. Thank you from my family and I.
Such a great place! Brisket was great, a lot of meet, almost no fat. Omg, amazing! We also had beans, coleslaw and potato - all delicious. We highly recommend to visit this place!
