Growing up in Portsmouth my mother and I would eat from here every Monday night in the late 60s and 70s now I'm back from living in Arizona and just had a Big Mo still just as good
From Childhood to Adulthood, Jim Dandy still serves the southern Ohio community with home cooked foods! Most all of my friends and family have started to re-visit for their food and the car hop experience.... Keep in mind, you don't have to go elsewhere for fries & gravy! Still love the food and service! I recommend everyone stop for a Big Mo!
We went here last month while visiting family. The food was really good with a home cooked meal quality, which we appreciated. The atmosphere is retro diner-esque and cozy. I wouldn’t bring a party bigger than 6 because dining area is pretty small. The service was warm and friendly. If you pull up to the parking lot, a staff member will come out to your car and take your order there if you’d rather dine inside your vehicle. I ordered the burger with the the tartar sauce. My son got breakfast foods (offered all day). Loved every bite and we will be coming back!
Found online and decided to try while in the area, drink was underneath all of the hot food watered down and nasty.. fries were brown and hard as rocks, fried green tomatoes were burnt on the outside and runny on the inside and the waitress never brought us our change back! If I had an option of giving 0 stars I would have.. definitely will not be returning
Been going through the area and seeing it for a couple years now and never stopped until today. I am very disappointed in myself for not trying them sooner. Fast, friendly, car side service with good food at a good price. Will definitely be stopping and sampling more of their menu.
Was in Portsmouth today and wanted to eat at a "Mom-and-Pop" restaurant instead of the usual chain varieties. Loved the atmosphere of a mid-century drive-in diner and friendly employees. Enjoyed a plate of fried green tomatoes, a cheeseburger and an ice tea. Great food, ready in minutes, and wonderful service. No disappointments here! Try it, I think you'll agree it is worth stopping for lunch!
My husband and I stopped.in today. This was a place my Dad took me as a child and I loved it. The waitress was very apologetic for the experience. The corn dogs were still frozen after they deep fried them. They.made two more corn dogs with cold spots still in them. Again a super courteous waitress. Needless to say, we won't be back.
I think the place is pretty great! The Big Mo, Coke, and fries special is a good deal, especially compared to the chain burger places. A favorite is the Swiss Miss: a burger, but on buttered, grilled rye bread. It used to be served on a rye bun, but those are super difficult to find, these days. The rye bread is actually an upgrade!! Get the hot fudge cake sundae! The menu’s pricing scheme is a bit peculiar, but the specials are worth it. Delicious, made-to-order, burger joint food.
