First time here. The waiter was very helpful pointing out the vegetarian dishes that can be made vegan. I had the Jamaican Rasta Pasta, minus cheese. My husband had Jerk Pork and our friend had the Oxtail. They each had a beer as well. Everyone enjoyed their meal and had left overs to take home. They use plastic to go containers. They give out plastic straws. In the near future those one time use plastic items will be banned here. Brazil and a few other countries have already banned them. Overall we enjoyed our visit and will be back to try other dishes.
My wife and I found our new favorite Okemos/Haslett location for lunch and dinner. The food was absolutely amazing and great portion sizes. I can’t speak highly enough to how good it was.
Yummy, emperor-sized portions and good service. Wish the fish was ocean-friendly, but Kingston scored big with no-plastic bags and ecofriendly boxes. Will come back to explore more of the menu, and look for dishes with more fruits&veggies on the side. Yay!
(pic. On the left food was bland; went back to swap my meal pic on the right for was way! Better) I'm here to correct the review; My husband didn't realize he order the wrong item on the menu; so when I went to return the food & to get a refund the chef/ owner was kind enough to show and to explain to me how to order for my husband next time; he gave me my refund and fix the correct dish he was looking for; I actually took the time to steal a taste and I regret I didn't order it for my self 😂the beans & rice he must of added more seasonings to it cause my previous review lol ; I will ask questions before ordering especially to a place I never been before!
I have been to the Kingston Kitchen a total of 5 times since its opening week. I work down the road and we occasionally order lunch to go there. However, of those 5 times I have only had 1 order with no problems. I've received an Ocho Rios burger missing the pork belly, a Jamaican Patty with a "side" of the Jamaican Slaw blend in a 2oz condiment container and no avocado ranch to be seen, and a Jack Fruit sandwich with a side of rubbery plantain chips par cooked and cut to what felt like .5" thick. All of these issues are small things that I've found a logical explanation for, such as: the place just opened and still working out the menu, maybe there is a new cook in the house, or maybe they were busy and someone made an honest mistake. But after today, I'm beginning to think the cooks are just incompetent. I ordered a Kingston Hawaiian burger and received a patty, the veggies, and only a top bun. I thought that maybe the bottom bun had been buried under the lettuce, but that was not the case. It simply was not there. Thanks to fast food chains and lazy kids menus, everyone knows what a burger looks like by the age of 2. I cannot comprehend how someone sends a burger out without one of the buns. Is the bottom bun still sitting out on the line somewhere? Have all my other past orders been the results of incapable cooks instead of legitimate mistakes? You may be wondering why I didn't just go back and get a bun. I only get a certain amount of time for lunch. By the time I would have driven back out there, got my bun, and got back to work--I'd have no time left for lunch. I wanted to give this review a 1 star due to the frustrations of only having a 1/5 chance of getting everything that was ordered. But with that being said, the food and flavors at Kingston Kitchen are usually good. And there are other people at the office who have gotten a complete order more than once (but never 5/5). So my recommendation? Skip ordering Kingston Kitchen to go, but instead sit down where you're not very far from the kitchen.
The coconut curry chicken was delicious, and our waitress was very attentive and friendly. I tried the Reggae Medley juice, it was tasty
1. Too pricey 2. Good starters 3. Very bad fried bananas 🍌 4. Too much turmeric in Curry’s and doesn’t taste like an authentic Jamaican 5. Untrained servers who doesn’t have any knowledge on the food listed in the menu . Long way to go ! But I loved the jumbo shrimp with coconut stuff
Friendly staff and clean store. One of the cooks ( possibly the owner) came out to check to see if we were enjoying ourselves and the food. The food was delicious. I went with a group of 9 and everyone enjoyed their meals.
