Authentic Taste, but the Lack of Cleanliness is a Dealbreaker After a Chinese friend recommended this Lanzhou hand-pulled noodle spot in Philly, I was excited to try their lamb noodles. I arrived shortly after 7:30 PM on a Thursday evening and was surprised to find only one other customer there. The Food: I ordered the Noodles with Lamb, and I have to say, it felt very authentic and genuinely tasty. The vegetables added a nice freshness to the broth. While there wasn't much lamb in the bowl, that is understandable given the very reasonable price point of $12–$13. The hand-pulled noodles themselves were excellent. The Issue: Unfortunately, the experience was overshadowed by the lack of cleanliness. I am aware that some small, authentic spots aren't always known for being spotless, but the level of grime here was hard to ignore. The red chili oilwas delicious, but the serving cup it came in was quite dirty. Even the bottle of hand sanitizer on the table looked so filthy that I didn't want to touch it. Final Word: I’m really not asking for a high-end, sleekly designed, or "shiny" place. Customers come here specifically for the authentic food, not the decor. However, all we are asking is for the staff to maintain a minimum level of cleanliness—like simply wiping down the condiment bottles on the table more often. It is a shame, because I would love to return for the flavor every time I'm in town, but the unsanitary environment means I won't be going back.
Being from nyc, and have had many a many different Asian foods … this.. this place has the most authentic taste ever… from noodles to your comfort favorites of garlic shrimp or general tso, you can really tell it’s not the same sticky or hard or typical fast food Chinese! Always come only here when visiting Philly!
