3 months agoCongee was good on a cold day. Chicken was more like the hainanese white chicken chopped into small pieces and it was nicely tender.

4 months agoLocated in Vanderbilt market. I came here for lunch the other day and I liked it. I got the mixed chicken rice. The rice itself was the highlight for me, it was aromatic and flavorful, especially after mixing it with the three sauces provided (ginger scallion, spicy, and a sweet soy sauce type). As for the meat, the poached chicken wasn't as tender and juicy as I expected, but I still really liked the gelatinous skin on it. The roast chicken was great, the meat was juicy and the skin was flavorful. I liked the yu choy as well, it was crunchy and fresh and contrasted well with the soft and aromatic rice. The dish came with a clear broth soup which was super flavorful (I'm assuming it was the chicken poaching liquid), which was honestly one of the highlights for me! Overall I would recommend Lou Yau Kee if you're in the area looking for a yummy meal. I wouldn't go far out of my way for it though.

4 months agoReally great food. Lowkey got swindled by the women. I asked what was better the roasted chicken or poached and she said mixed bowl. I was like alright whatever you say and got it. That bowl was hella tax, way more than if I were to get the poaches or roasted chicken alone. Anyways it was good though. The rice was really great as well which I feel weird saying because it’s just rice but they added a bit of flavor to it. The sauces were good as well and veggies were alright. Overall great place but it was pretty expensive but can I really complain when I’m in New York? I can’t. Good spot. My Beli have it around a seven which I think is pretty accurate.

5 months agoThe portions are big, good pricing, and great location. Ample seating area, this is a great food court to hang out with friends...also very strong public wifi...will definitely return for this unique Singapore flavor!!!

Edited 5 months agoIncredible, as good as any place I tried in Singapore, which tracks since this place was started by the son of the man who founded a famous Hainanese chicken rice restaurant in Singapore (Chatterbox, founded by Kiang Joon Toh). The poached chicken is classic and beautifully tender. The rice that comes with it is so savory with broth poured on top. The lemon fried chicken is ok, I didn’t get much lemon flavor but the fry on it was excellent. Also shoutout to the Chinese broccoli which is some of the most tender I’ve had too, most restaurants don’t cook it long enough so it’s still bitter and crunchy. Prices here are pretty high ($18 for poached chicken, $20 for mixed set) but for the quality I’m more than happy to pay every time. I’m begging everyone PLEASE come here to see for yourself how good it is, I’ll be devastated if it closes!

6 months agoTried their rice with mixed chicken today. The portion was good. The rice has the fragrance of chicken oil. The poached chicken was extremely tender and silky. You can see the transparent gelatin melted out and crystallized between the skin and the flesh. The roasted chicken was nice, too. It was also tender and had a mild roasted fragrance. It came with 3 different kinds of sauces: chili sauce, soy sauce, ginger paste. The chili sauce was mildly spicy but more of the fragrance. The soy sauce was a bit thick and a bit salty, but paired with well with chicken and the rice. The ginger paste was perfect for the food. I mixed all three sauces into the chicken and rice, and it was very delicious. It also came with some poached vegetables, sliced cucumber, and a tomato. It was a nice touch, and to make the whole meal doesn’t feel too heavy. The soup came with the meal was EXTREMELY SALTY. I don’t know if it’s an accident or this is how they make the soup. There was some cabbage in it. The staff were friendly and quick. The whole Vanderbilt market was like a zoo. It was kinda dirty, too. Take out might be the smartest choice.

6 months agoI inhaled that Mixed Chicken Rice from Lou Yau Kee so fast I’m pretty sure I set a land speed record. Succulent chicken and wholesome bok choy had me contemplating a second lunch. Thanks, MealPal, for making my taste buds do a happy dance!

7 months agoI must say this is the most tender chicken I had in US, very alike ones had in Singapore. This food center is like a hawker center with great vibes too. Staffs’ smiles are very sweet!!!
