At first i was hesitant to even try this place because nobody is ever in that place. The food was pretty awful. I got the steak and onions for my daughter and she stated that the meat tasted weird and when I tasted it, it tasted as if the meat was bad. My son got a hamburger and didn't complain. I got the shredded steak and rice, and again the meat tasted as if it was bad meat. The side salad had more tomatoes than lettuce and it was the worst looking salad I've ever had in my life. I was the only person in there. There was a woman that appeared to be a worker, but she was on the computer looking for a house. Oh, I also got two beef empanadas and the outside was great but the meat inside again tasted as if the meat was bad. I'm not one to post a review, but I don't want others to have the same experience as we did. Luckily, nobody got sick from the little bit that we ate. Well, the food ended outside and the critters of the wild enjoyed the food.
Cuban Sandwich was bland. Pickles weren't tangy. Mustard though visible, was not enough to taste it through the richness of the pork and cheese. Bread was pressed too long making the sandwich crunchy instead of the aim of crispy. Please change pickles, they were awful and the biggest disappointment.
Maybe you've seen the new movie Nonna's, about Italian Grandmother's, cooking with all their experience, and heart and soul. Just for the love of food and everything that comes with it. When you eat at Lule, it feels like that movie, but a versión Cubano. 🇨🇺 The restaurant interior is a little rough around the edges, and it feels a bit more cafeteria than a lively food destination, but in the back, behind the swinging double doors, someone is putting their heart and soul into the food, and it tastes like there's a Cuban Nonna back there. There is. She checked on me with a smile when I opened the styrofoam lid to get a quick looky of my meal before heading out the door. It smelled awesome. I smiled back. I'm not Cuban. I'm not Hispanic, for that matter. But my family is, and I've had the real home cooked Cuban food that you know is real when you taste it. That is here. At Lule. I'll admit I was disappointed i couldn't try a Cuban sandwich because they ran out of bread that day. But I'll be back to try it again. The beef empanadas are delicious. It is filled with a healthy amount of beef, green pepper, and spice. The dough wasn't greasy or soggy, and the red pepper aeoli sauce was unexpectedly good to dip. The carne con pappa was equally spot on. Tender beef. I mean tender. Sauce was a tad different than im used to, but so much character in the flavor. Traditional. Delicious. If you're in the Gainesville area, take a little drive to Lule in Newberry. You might not have been there before, and it's a delight to pick up good food in a small quaint town where the traffic is slower and the food is cooked slowly too, with experience and heart.
