I’d love to give a proper review, but we didn’t even get past the power crazy “doorman”. Went there around 11pm for a couple quick drinks for a 21st birthday and we had one person wearing sweatpants that “barely looked like sweatpants”, were told there was a dress code. Considering the look of the interior and the grade of the few patrons there, I was shocked. We had 3 South Bend officers in our group you think they would have liked the business and the additional protection but I guess not. I won’t be back.
We went out with some of our friends and decided to try something new and were well taken care of by Nicki and Lindsey at MOB. Walking in, we felt a Boston/New Orleans vibe which is definitely reflected on the menu. The soups came piping hot, the french fries were amazing with a nice kick. The oysters were fantastic and the drinks on point. We enjoyed the fun, lively yet chill atmosphere and would definitely go back.
Years ago when I was a regular here it was the place to be. Very sociable and busy. Stopped in over Christmas. I had to convince my brother to give it another chance as he believed things had taken a turn for the worse since then. All it took was 3 sentences from the rude, self-important bartender for us to decide to just turn around and never come back. We hadn't even taken our jackets off. With drinking at an all time low and South Bend being a decrepit slum you would think patrons would be valued. Evidently not the case. I cannot for the life of me conceive of what we did to elicit this behavior from the green-haired woman that soured us on the Oyster Bar, considering all we'd done was say hello and ask what decent tequilas they had. I have to assume it's political given her attitude. You don't run into that type of nonsense at McCormick's or Corby's.
