See All ReviewsSpending a few days in Alpine and was excited to try & support a locally/family-run business, especially based on the majority of the reviews. When we first walked in, the family I presumed owned it was wrapping silverware at the table in front near the counter (this was not the problem) - mom, her grown kiddos, and grandma. Cool, I’ve worked in the restraint biz and this is a common thing. They greeted us and let us know we can sit wherever. However, Dad walked out from the kitchen in an orange shirt to sit at the table to help wrap silverware - as he walked to the table he stuck his fingers in his mouth to dig out something in the back that was stuck in his teeth as he finished eating whatever he ate in the kitchen and continued sitting down to assist wrapping silverware. I assume the eldest daughter was working her tail off to take orders, clean, bring out orders, etc. She was so nice and can tell she was doing her best to keep things running. The food was okay. Not something I would rave about or care to stop by even if I was passing through.
As others have said, if you're not a local, do not expect any "chatting up" from anyone. We were able to get in quickly, placed our order and food was out pretty fast. When they put our food on the table, a lady from the table behind me yelled at the waitress and said they'd been waiting for their food for 25 minutes. Once we were served, we were not spoken to again. My wife wanted to take home some of her breakfast burrito so we waited for 15 minutes to get someone to acknowledge us. So without the check, wife's plate in hand we walked to the front and waited for the waitress to come over so we could pay. She asked if I wanted to leave her a tip. I asked if she was serious and had to laugh. Told her absolutely not and that the service we and others received was horrible. ABSOLUTELY WILL NEVER SPEND ANOTHER DIME IN THIS ESTABLISHMENT!
coming back from big bend and headed back to denton with my pals and we stopped at the magical mystical macgoos. this place was fantastic. something about the classic breakfast plate was amazing. must be made with love. it’s been weeks and we still talk about it. i’d love to personally thank mr macgoo for helping us create such a fond memory together.
