Yesterday, my husband and I made a second trip to Marakanda, an Uzbek restaurant in Northeast Philly. I dearly wish this restaurant was in our neighborhood! Our server was patient, helpful and gracious in explaining menu items. The portions were good and the prices reasonable. We ordered dumplings (Manti) which arrived in a group of 5. The dumplings were good with and without the sour cream sauce. One order of dumplings was practically enough for a whole meal. We also ordered Plov which is a dish of beef, peppers and onions over a bed of lightly seasoned rice. The grilled lamb chops came with 2 chops and pickled onions. We also ordered grilled, skewered tomatoes to accompany it along with a round bread. The lamb was perfectly grilled. There were many other meats in the refrigerated glass case waiting to be grilled. You can take a look at these before ordering. If you like eggplant, don't miss the eggplant salad which was perfection — the lightly fried pieces having a slightly crisp exterior and a creamy interior. Needless to say, we highly recommend Marakanda.
Marakanda Restaurant is the definition of real, authentic food. The quality is outstanding, the meat is fresh, tender, and perfectly juicy, cooked to perfection and generously served. The atmosphere is just as impressive: clean, pleasant, and welcoming, with traditional music playing softly in the background, creating a calm experience without noise. I’m Brazilian and my husband is American, and we always enjoy coming back to renew this experience together. Every detail shows care and authenticity. Definitely a place worth visiting.
