Every time I go to Mauvette’s I am reminded of the sweet, authentic, hidden gems I used to find when living in a bigger city, or on a tropical vacation. I love the atmosphere, the music, the outside seating area, plants, the grab & go patties, the drink selection, Mauvette and her whole team. I love how I can find something new and delicious and different for dinner right here in our little town. Mauvette’s rules!
Best food in town. The lamb chops, the mahi mahi, the jerk chicken, fried chicken, the soups, the desserts... I wish I could eat only this every day. Mauvette is such a sweetheart, and you can taste the love in her dishes.
Was driving from Virginia to Ohio and stopped here for dinner. The food was delicious and Mauvette is amazing. She took the time to explain specials she had. So if you want real Jamician food and a really friendly staff you sould stop by.
What an absolute joy this place is! As far as authentic cuisine goes, this is hands down the best in town. Super friendly staff and insanely delicious food tucked away in between a florist and an Allstate. I’ve been here a few times now and it’s definitely already a part of my regular rotation when passing through Athens. If you don’t know what to get, just ask! You can’t go wrong with a chicken platter or a beef patty. Worth every penny and then some!
I have dietary allergies so very rarely eat or order out. I’m currently in the process of moving to Athens. It’s hard to find restaurants that feel like they take me seriously and will take appropriate precautions. Mauvette had been amazing about hearing me and steering me towards the options that work for me. This is no easy task. She has even lost sales by warning me away from a purchase. She is a gem! Then I found out that this evening she was giving away food to anyone in need. No questions asked. Please support this business that so much supports the community!
Was looking for something new for dinner, fortunately I happened to stumble upon Mauvettes. We ordered a jerk chicken entree and lamb chops, with a side order of the fried plantains. Oh my goodness, everything was absolutely incredible! I never would’ve have imagined finding such a hidden gem in Athens. The jerk chicken had a great char while still being super tender. The spice level on it was perfect. My girlfriend absolutely loved the lamb chops, she said they were the best shes ever had. The sides of rice were perfectly cooked and the portion sizes were very generous. All this accompanied by Mauvettes lovely attitude and enjoyable presence, we 100% recommend giving this spot a try if you’re near by!
Amazing amazing food! Why haven't I found this gem earlier! Mauvette is an amazing person and her food is as good as her jolly personality! We tried oxtail and jerk chicken with rice and vegetables and tried a sample of mashed potatoes too! Flavourful and delicious! Definitely going back and definitely recommending to all my friends!
We learned a couple years ago that we really like Caribbean food. We moved to Athens last year, and while we really enjoy the town, the food options lean heavier to Mexican and Asian. Mauvette's is the first Caribbean option we've run across. The flavors are bright and satisfying, from the basic "patties" that are full of flavor to the more fleshed out palette of the sandwiches (we have not yet had the entree dishes, but we hope to soon). Phenomenal flavors and the people working there are great, too). It tells me a lot that the people in the same shipping center also frequent and support this restaurant. Those who are sensitive to spice should at least be aware, but don't stay away. One in my household is very sensitive to spice, and while eating their sandwich still said it was worth it for the great flavor.
