First time eating here and I gotta say I’m not impressed. I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu hoping the quality would match the price. The green beans were good the Gouda Mac was ok could have been more flavor. The lamb chops were not the best very fatty and small for $45. In fact the entire plates portions are really small for $45. I can’t believe they really use these cheap styrofoam plates small portions and charge so much for so little food. I added a picture of a suggested sides container, one that I got from a different restaurant same exact order but much better portions and leaner lamb. Hopefully this review crosses the right person.
The best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had in my life. The chicken tenders were incredible as well. This place is a hidden gem in Dayton
Soooo, tonight I went to Morgan’s in downtown Dayton off W. Third St. It is an elevated soul food restaurant that serves delicious food. The menu is limited and the dining room is small, but you should be able to find something to your liking. There was a large group of us and it was hard to get everyone’s thoughts at the end of the table, but here is my partial review. Friend one ordered the chicken wing dinner. They were not whole wings, but 7 party wings. There were about 10 sauces to choose from and it came w/ a roll and two sides. Friend one went with the honey lemon pepper wings, gouda mac and cheese, and green beans. The green beans had a little kick of heat, but tasted a little salty. A spiral noodle was used for the mac and cheese. It was greatly appreciated as it held the cheese really well. The honey lemon pepper wings were good, but perhaps a little too sweet w/ the honey. Because friend one was torn between the honey lemon pepper wings and the bourbon glaze wings, some of the bourbon glaze was requested on the side and it was preferred. If rating from 1-5, friend one would give the meal a 3. Friend two ordered the bourbon glazed salmon dinner, which came w/ a side of rice. For the sides, mac and cheese and cabbage. For friend two, the salmon was awesome, never tasted anything better. Although friend two is usually not a fan of rice, it was felt the rice was very good. The cabbage was tender, with a balance of tartness and sweetness. Usually friend two is critical of mac and cheese, but felt this version was awesome….wonderful. Also appreciated our server Marcus who was very kind and helpful. Friends three and four ordered meals to go. Friend five ordered the beef Philly cheesesteak. There was silence at the end of the table as the meal was thoroughly enjoyed along w/ the wildberry lemon drop. Friend six also had the salmon dinner and thought it was lovely and delicious. Friend seven had the salmon salad, along with a drink called 1101. It consisted of bourbon, Hennessey, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Their response: “No notes, get to Morgan’s!!” Friend eight had the salmon dinner and said it was very good, in fact excellent. Also got a slice of the carrot cake to go. Friend nine had the honey lemon pepper wings, and thought they were good. Friend ten started w/ the wildberry lemon drop and thought it was really good. Also ordered the bourbon glazed salmon dinner w/ green beans and mac and cheese, and a side salad as well. Friend ten is usually not a fan of mac and cheese, but felt this one was really good. Appreciated that there was cheese in every crevice of the noodle and yet it was not too cheesy. Also appreciated the tinge of spice in the green beans, but did not feel that they were too salty. The salmon was really good and the glaze was out of this world. Also could not stop raving about the rice. Friend ten also had the 1101 drink and thought it was good as well. Appreciated that the flavor was well balanced and was able to taste both the bourbon and the Hennessey in the drink. For me, I started w/ a couple glasses of Villa M peach. I am a fan of a sweet sparkling wine. I decided to go w/ the honey lemon pepper wings as it was a fave of our server Marcus. For my sides, I got the green beans and the mac and cheese. The wings were really good, fried nice and crispy. Usually lemon pepper can be salty, however, I did not find that to be the case, perhaps b/c of the honey. The mac and cheese was delicious; cheesy and hot. I also was not a fan of the green beans. I found them to be salty as well. I ended my meal w/ the 1101 cocktail and also agree that it was well balanced. I got a piece of carrot cake to go. All in all, I thought it was a very good meal and I would go back. Not necessarily conducive for large groups, as we took up the majority of the restaurant. Though the menu is small, there were some good options, and the prices and portion sizes were good. Give it a try and let me know what you think.
Owner is rude, food is ok, had to eat out of a carry out container with a plastic fork. This placed will be closed in a year. Nobody wants your tiny chicken wings lor your $25 chicken tender dinner. Maybe you should make time for your customers or former customer I should say. Buyer beware. He’s selling SMALL WINGS that are approximately half the size that they should be. In turn putting more money in his pocket while ripping his customers off. If you don’t mind throwing your money away, being treated like trash, eating out of a carry out container with a plastic fork, all while being berated by the owner then this your spot. By the way little bruh. Those are Small wings not jumbo cut. Quit lying!
Ok full transparency the garlic parm Mac almost made me cry it was soooo delicious. The texture, flavor and consistency was divine! The salmon on the salt was cooked to perfection very flavorful not overly seasoned. The drinks were tasty and strong. Marcus provided excellent service! 10/10
This place was amazing!!! We shopped around before choosing a spot to eat the night we went & let me tell you im so glad we found this place. Food was DELICIOUS. We had a drink outside while waiting for our food which took exactly as long as drinking the drink. They were busy too. Place was clean, chill friendly environment. Definitely recommend!!! I wish I lived closer 🥺 we were only passing through the area, but anytime were back around there were definitely going back!!! We had the Beef Philly cheese steak with the fries & bourbon glazed salmon with rice, mac & cheese, veggies & a melt in your mouth roll 😋🤤 GO HERE! 😍
I absolutely love Morgan’s! Every time I go there it’s always clean and the atmosphere is always a vibe & very pleasant. The employees make you feel welcome and they let you know they appreciate your business. The portions of food they give you are generous and definitely worth the money. I have no complaints about this place and I think everyone should try it out. You won’t be disappointed. This place was a great addition to the Dayton area. We needed this!!!
