See All ReviewsI visited on 2/20/26 and had a very disappointing experience. My friend and I seated ourselves at the outdoor bar area (pictured below) and waited about 5-10 minutes without being acknowledged. After waiting, we politely made eye contact and gave a small wave in an attempt to get service. We were patient and respectful throughout. Despite that, we were not assisted. During that time, other guests who arrived after us were served and had their orders refreshed. A gentleman stood next to us and was helped immediately while we were still waiting. As the only person of color in that section of the bar, I couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable and question why we were being overlooked. Whether intentional or not, the experience left me feeling unwelcome. We ultimately left without being served. I hope management looks into this, as no guest should feel ignored or uncomfortable when dining out.
Nomad's Canteen feels more like a destination venue than a Canteen. We were in town for a private event being held at Nomad's. The show was on Saturday, but we stopped in on Friday to check the place out. Wow! Were we pleasantly surprised! What a cool place, and atmosphere. We had drinks, no food, but the food we saw being served definitely looked good. I would have no problem eating here. We arrived at 2 PM on Saturday and were in store for an all-day event. Live bands were playing during the day, and electronic music DJs at night. 5-stars for the sound and lighting, for sure! This place jams, and is set-up perfectly for packed house events. The drinks were stiff, and the crowd was loose and enjoying themselves. The upstairs, front patio is a super-cool place to step outside and get some fresh air. The "loft" overlooking the dancefloor has ample seating and was a great place to rest our legs/feet. There is a lot of cool wall hangers, and artwork items in Nomads too. I've never seen someone make art from old cassette tapes, but I loved it, and this is an awesome idea. If you are in Melbourne and looking for a spot to have a couple of drinks, and maybe catch some live music, you should definitely checkout Nomad's.
I went to Nomads with a group of people during the middle of the day. As a result, it wasn't crowded but in the evenings, I sure it can fill up. That is not negative because I like the atmosphere in bars when the crowd is there. They were very accomodating to us. The decorations added to the experience quite a bit. It would be worth a trip just to wander through the place taking in the atmosphere.
