See All ReviewsFirst time eating here and I see why its always crowded. The food was delicious. A bit on the pricey side compared to other catfish houses that had bigger filets and I was surprised that there wasn't any whole catfish on the menu. Other than that it was a great experience and would come again!
TL;DR: Nothin' Fancy is absolutely worth the trip: Good food, good value! Don’t let the name fool you—Nothin’ Fancy may be a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it spot on GA 234 in Leary, but it delivers big on flavor. My mom had been talking about it for months before I finally decided to give it a try. Glad I did. We both ordered the catfish and oyster plate, and it was a winner. The catfish was freshly fried, piping hot, and seasoned just right—full of flavor without overpowering the fish. The oysters were perfectly cooked—tender but not chewy, which is how I know if the cook in the back knows what he's doing. I paired mine with creamy cheese grits, and we split an order of crispy onion rings. Yes, it’s Southern comfort food and yes, it’s fried but somehow it all came out light and never greasy. Also, each item tasted as it should, ie the onion rings didn't taste like fish and the grease didn't taste like it had been in the fryer for hours. And the lemonade? Served in a massive glass and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The service strikes that perfect balance: attentive, friendly, and never hovering. Clearly they've been there for a while because they knew the names of the regulars and recognized my mom, who had only been stopping there for a few months. If you’re anywhere near Leary, make the stop.
This is an incredible seafood place. I love their fried whole catfish. When traveling for business, I always try to make a point to eat here. It’s worth the drive for sure! Great food and the staff are so kind and gracious.
