See All ReviewsOasis Diner – Passaic (Fair Warning About Our Experience) I want to share our experience so others are aware and can make an informed decision. We visited today as a party of 4. When we received the check, a gratuity was already added. My husband was ready to let it go, but I wanted to understand what percentage was charged and where it was disclosed. The cashier told us the tip was added because of the number of people at the table and said it was noted on the menu. I asked to see the menu, and the menu actually states that gratuity is added for parties of 5 or more. When we pointed this out, both the cashier and waitress said the menu that reflects the “4-person” gratuity policy was “with the owner” and couldn’t be shown. We normally tip and did tip on a previous visit, but being required to pay a gratuity without clear disclosure—and then being unable to provide proof of the policy—was very frustrating. We won’t be returning, but I wanted to make others aware so you can double-check your bill and ask questions if something doesn’t seem right.
This place was nice and clean, a great option for breakfast or lunch, I would definitely recommend and go back again!!
I would come here and always take my food to go. One day I decided to sit down and eat with my family, we enjoy going out to eat sometimes and always tip very well. However the waiter just had this look on her face the whole time she was serving this black family. Come to find out she added her tip to the bill as of if I wasn’t going to give her a good tip. I felt very stereotyped and would never eat there again because of this incident. I had already taken out $30 cash for tip there was no reason to add your tip to the bill and charge to my card which takes another percentage of the total due. She ended up getting a lesser tip by doing this. The funny thing is I run my own business and can pay all their salaries. It’s a shame to treat ppl this way.
