See All ReviewsI drive from Fort Worth to Chico Texas just for this food and usually will buy hot sauce and chips to take hom, the food is great and the place is laid back like times not seen in Fort Worth for 50 - 60yrs ago everyone who has been there craves going back whenever we get the chance to, don't look like much on the outside, but don't let that fool you, it's just really good food and it's not pricey like big city places are nowadays, it's worth the drive!! 👌😎
Picked up a to go order from here today and I was met with a sweet greeting and a warm smile from a lady who I believe was the owner. We chatted for a bit and you could just see the effort she love she had for her restaurant and for guests. I was looking for change to pay cash and she even offered to grab the 10 cents for me out of her own change jar. You can’t put a price on that type of humanity. Times are hard for many right now but the warmth and humanity i experienced at this restaurant brightened my whole day. Also, the menu is clear and easy to read. Even extra charges for sharing are stated on there plainly.
I want to start by saying I truly love supporting small businesses, and I respect that owners can charge what they feel is necessary. At the same time, as a single mom in this economy, I should be able to order what my family actually needs…no more, no less. This past Saturday after my twin 6 year olds had a baseball game in Chico, we decided to support a local spot and eat at Pablo’s. It was me, my twins, and my retired parents….none of us big eaters, and we’re all trying to be mindful of spending. We ordered 5 waters, a small queso, half order of beef nachos, one enchilada plate, and a bean and cheese burrito (which was so small my son actually laughed and commented on it). We didn’t even finish one basket of chips or ask for any refills. When the check came, I was surprised to see a $5 charge for “sharing.” That felt like being penalized for not wasting food and trying to budget responsibly. What really bothered me, though, wasn’t the $5…it was how it was handled. When we politely asked about it, the response was defensive and dismissive. Instead of acknowledging our concern, we were met with comments comparing us to McDonald’s and being told it would’ve cost more there which, as someone who budgets carefully, just isn’t true for my family. I completely understand that costs are rising, but the way this was communicated and the attitude behind it was disappointing. I love Chico and truly want local businesses to succeed, but good customer service matters just as much as good food. Unfortunately, this experience left a bad impression.
