3 weeks agoHark, I tell thee, this tavern is a most wondrous and comforting haunt that e'er I did behold! The banquet they serve is passing good and did please the palate well, and those who attend thee are of a most friendly disposition. A marvelous, hearth-like comfort doth permeate the entire space—a homely air that blessed this rustic place, the which doth ever content my spirit. Now list to this single critique, which I offer to the worthy host to mend the flaw that vexed my spirit most: I pray thee, let soft cushions be bestowed upon the bare wooden benches within thy booths, lest thy guests find the seating somewhat o'er-firm for their ease through long and merry stays! Therefore, to all souls I cry: if fortune finds thee near this place, I urge thee, step within and witness the wonders that there do dwell! For I shall most assuredly commend this house unto all good company, and my own steps shall, without fail, turn hitherward again.

6 months agoAfter my sister dropping off her dog at Muddy Paws around the corner from Papa Joe's we decided to eat in at about 8am Saturday. We both ordered bacon egg and cheese tacos. It came with a small serving of refried beans, a 1 oz cup of salsa and tortilla chips. The meal was very cheap ($2.25) and very delicious. It was plenty and kept us til lunch. For someone not familiar with the area and not from Mercedes, this was a great choice. Thank you Papa Joe's. We'll visit again soon.

9 months agoPerson at the cashier’s desk was friendly in the beginning and end of the visit. Food was 4/10. The beans tasted like they had preservatives so I’m assuming they were from a can. It was ok. My recommendation is you clear out the transients that hang around that area. It gives an unwelcoming feeling from the start.

10 months agoFirst time dining in after previously only ordering takeout. It was a Monday morning and the place wasn’t busy at all, yet service was painfully slow. We were basically ignored that I had to get up and ask for assistance. The entire place smelled like backed-up sewage, which was overpowering and extremely off-putting. The tables were sticky, the air felt warm, muggy with poor ventilation, and the food came out cold and bland. Our waitress was inattentive and unhelpful, but thankfully another waitress who wasn’t even assigned to our table stepped in to assist us. That small act was appreciated in an otherwise a very disappointing first time experience. Sadly, this first dine-in visit left a bad impression. I don’t plan on eating in again, though I’ll probably still order takeout from time to time.

a year agoA cousin of mine told me about Papa Joe’s. So of course I had to try it. It was great! Friendly staff & great food! Ordered the Special because I love Carne Guisada & if you make it even a tad bit off, I will not eat it. Well, they made it so tender and perfect! The tea is also great. Will visit every time I visit family in the RGV.

2 years agoOmg no wonder this place is packed. The food is so good! Will definitely be back when I’m in Mercedes. Coffee was good too!
