The food is terrible and has no resemblence of true Jamaican food. I should have known better being that I was the only patron. It took 30 minutes for my food and then it was completely cold. I got the jerk chicken. The rice was very crunchy and cold. The chicken was bland with no flavors at all. This was also cold to say the least. This pricing is expensive for the portion and quality of the food as well. Staff pretty much ignore you and act as though you are a bother to them and that you are being an inconvenience by being there. I have had authentic Jamaican food, and this place is not it. I would not recommend anyone to eat here, but to rather stay away from here. There are better places to eat.
Curry goat was the most flavorful I've had in Tallahassee as far as spice. I do not mean heat so much as I do flavor from spices and seasonings although there was a little zip and scotch bonnet flavor. Most pieces were tender but one in particular was a chew-fest and I think it all could have used a little bit more time. Cabbage mix was cooked spot on of well past raw but nowhere near mushy and was very good with some vinegar. Rice and peas flavor was very good on its own but ate a little dry and I'd like them less seasoned but with more curry goat sauce texture wise. Beef n chicken patties were good, with nice scotch bonnet flavor but a little underfilled and pasty inside and I wonder what brand they use. I will definitely eat here again but will probably find someone to split my food with. Some people complained about prices of main dishes but I think the price for the curry goat was spot on for the quality and quantity of food. I do wish that half portions for maybe 2/3 the price were available, as I really did not need anywhere near that large of a portion and I think people would be more willing to try some of the main dishes.
We ventured out to Reggae Rail, first time customers on Valentine’s Day. Excellent customer service. We ordered food to go. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Relaxed outdoor area. You can smell the food as you are walking up and you see the large steel pots outside, with food being cooked; authentic vibe! Then the flavors - authentic Jamaican cuisine!! I have been chasing this flavor since I visited Jamaica a few years ago. Peas and rice perfectly seasoned, oxtails and plantains. Perfection! My husband wanted the brown chicken and I wanted the Oxtails so we went with the sampler. My only challenge with the Sampler is we paid $78, which is fine because the portion sizes are large and we will eat on this for a week. However, we received more rice than anything else. Small corner of cabbage, very few plantains, and limited oxtails. We basically paid for the brown and stew chicken and the rice. That is my only challenge and I would not order the sampler again, I would order the Individual meals. Otherwise, well worth it!!
First time and food was great. So many good flavors. We ordered the curry goat, Oxtail and the jerk chicken. We also had both beef and chicken patties. The rice and peas where cooked perfectly. Highly recommend and such a nice vibe outside
I’m from South Fla and so I’ve eaten at many Jamaican places and I actually can cook real Jamaican dishes.I was really disappointed when I got home and opened the box from Reggae Rail. For $18 I got 2 small legs and one thigh, a heaping pile of rice and peas and undercooked cabbage with no carrots. I seriously hope this is not their regular portion. I hate to say this BUT I must, seeing as I was the only white person there was that the reason for the extremely SMALL portion. The chicken was kind of dry and seemed old. In So Fl plates always come with hard dough or festival bread.I think my jerk chicken is better. I jerk my chicken for 3-4 days and cook it with wood and charcoal.
Even though this place was empty, the vibe was great. The food was absolutely amazing!! The best Jamaican food in Tally. Will definitely return!!
Best Jamaican food in Tallahassee, trust me I’ve tried them all. Friendly and fast service too (which if you know the stereotype about Jamaican restaurants, is rare). Also, I’m Jamaican so I can say that.
Incredible food, chicken was falling off the bone, rice and cabbage and beans were so good, big portion sizes too! Just an overall 10/10.
