Had a wonderful time! Food was great, service was fast and it was warm and inviting. We will be back!
Great Italian place. They need more staff--it is almost always one person serving. Our server tonight was great but she needs help! I got a pasta and meatballs, delish. About two years ago, we went for my birthday and I had the spiciest pasta and red clam sauce I've ever had in my life. If you like spicy, you'd like it, but I am not one for spice. The place didn't have music or television playing so the atmosphere could've been better, but still a cozy place to have dinner & some drinks. The deals on Tuesday and Thursdays are great! Also the link to their website on Facebook is hacked and is showing a very inappropriate site.
You Need To Know? Arrived at 5:35 & we were seated & ordering by 5:50. Then the wait was on. We waited over 1 hour for a 12 cut tray with Xtra cheese & 6 cuts of tomatoes & basil, and meat ravioli. The pizza seemed dry & very bland. The meat ravioli was homemade pasta & the meatballs were fantastic! The wait just wasn't worth it, losing a star on this occasion. Now You Know! -TBH
Great old school cafe. Bar on one side and nice dinner cafe on the other completely separated. We loved the “red” here as the flavors mixed in with the cheese were really good. The “white” was fantastic as well. Super thick and melty. The waitress could not have been nicer and more helpful.
The Old Forge style pizza here is a huge disappointment. The flavor simply falls flat. The sauce has no character, the cheese is chewy and dull but the crust was pretty good. Ordered red tray with pepperoni, onion, garlic and fresh tomato in addition to 4 cuts of red. My daughter announced after 1/2 a slice that the cheese was gross. I believe that to be an overstatement but when a pizza loving teen stops eating 1/2 way through 1 slice it tells you something. Love the old school bar and simple dining room. Compared to the vast options of Old Forge style pizza nearby this pizza was dead last between 6 places we tried in a week. I'd have a beer here but I'd skip the pizza. Woman taking the order was extremely nice and they are open on Monday (which most pizza places in Old Forge/Scranton are not).
Quaint old Tavern restaurant unchanged for decades, but that's the charm. You're coming here for the food. A lot of the pizza places in Old Forge have lost their "pizzazz "... many times because the owners died and didn't pass on the exact recipies. Not Salernos. Still moderately priced with great food and fast service. Since old Mary Gingerelli passed and took her perfect recipe for sofrito with her, this has become the next best in town. They also have one of the best square red pizzas around. Had mine half sausage. If you eat in house , they will provide you with hot seeds, oregano, and garlic powder. Besides the basic salt and pepper. They have several beers on tap and an array of basic wines. TV in the bar for its patrons. Got a tray of red half sausage and a dinner of sofrito and drinks for 43. And change. This the average person can afford. But , please don't forget to tip yor hard working wait staff
Great Old Forge style pizza!!! Light and airy crust and just amazing pizza!! Very nice people too. I get a tray whenever I travel through. Half Plaine half hot sausage pictured. Reheats really well to, 360F @ 6-7min in my air fryer is perfect!!
What a disappointment. so many people recommended this place for red cuts. We showed up Saturday and asked for two. They had none available and told us it would be a 10-15 minute wait. The bartender really didn't even acknowledge us at first, had her back to the door and just yapped with a local eating lunch. The cuts themselves were pretty bad. Like toasted white bread with tomato paste and cheap cheese on top. I've been a couple other places nearby and it was SO much better. Find another spot. The price was fair, but at $3 for two cuts that tasted bad, hard to say it was a deal...
