See All ReviewsWhile visiting my son and daughter in law, she suggested this restaurant as being the best authentic Honduran restaurant in the area. Being that she is from Honduras, of course I was all-in on giving this place a try! My son had previously raved about their Pollo Chuco dish, telling me it was essentially fried chicken on crack so I didn't even bother looking over the menu, we walked in with me already having decided what I was going to get. Shalom is a fairly small place, but full of personality! From the moment you walk in you're warmly greeted, there are lots of Honduran-based decorations on the wall, and it has an overall friendly, "neighborhood" vibe. The folks working there are inviting and attentive, they clearly take pride in their business and their food and it shows. We ordered 3 Pollo Chucos and drinks and they let us know that it would be about 20 minutes before the food would come out because they make each dish FRESH when it's ordered, nothing pre-made and reheated. Perfect! This gave us some time to chat and visit and take the place in while we waited. I couldn't tell if everyone who came in or was already there was a regular customer, friend, family, or just a random visitor like us because everyone was so friendly and clearly enjoying themselves. When our food finally came out, it was soooo worth the wait! The chicken was perfectly flavored with a delicious crispy coating of seasoning on it, sitting on top of shredded cabbage and bed of deliciously crisp, thin plantains. There was a dollop of salsa or pico de gallo on top and some kind of sweet, creamy sauce drizzled over top of it. There was a serving of red pickled onions on top too, which I love. It was also HOT - clearly fresh out of the fryer, I almost burned my mouth with my first bite but luckily I had seen my son bite into his first and noticed all the steam coming out of it, so I was more careful with my initial tasting. The server came over several times to check on us, just enough to ensure we didn't want for anything and was super friendly and engaging. I almost forgot to mention, they also have REAL Mexican Coke! As in, it even comes in a 500ml bottle, so you know it's the real deal!! This is a small, family-run business that I truly hope sticks around for many years to come. However often I am back in the area for a visit, I will absolutely be stopping by Shalom's. As it is, now I want to go back home and scour the map to see if I can find another Honduran restaurant that is near me that I can have this wonderful dish again. I wish I had gotten better pictures of the food and a few pics of the inside of the place as well, but honestly I didn't go in there thinking I'd be writing a review, I just ended up being so blown away by the entire experience I felt compelled to do so after the fact. Thank you, Shalom's, for a fantastic meal and top-notch service!!
