Songqiren is a new business in the zTao Supermarket food court at Park & Coit that sells super fresh hand-wrapped wontons, wonton soup, and pork buns. We saw it by chance this past Sunday when stopping by the food court for lunch after church and I decided to order a fresh bowl of shrimp-filling wonton soup from the ladies at the counter, who were busily wrapping wontons to order with all the different fillings they were offering that day. My bowl came out to be $13 - they accept both cash and credit. I was told that often people will come by and order trays of wontons to freeze at home, also for $13 per tray, and that sometimes they also sell freshly made steamed buns, but that Sunday they were pretty slammed with orders so I think they were only doing wontons. They had five different flavors of filling that Sunday but I only remember four of them - pork with shrimp, pork with celery, pork with century egg, and pork with mushroom. It did take about 30-35 minutes for me to get my food, but I could see them wrapping the wontons as quickly as they could and the lunch rush was super busy, so it's a small price to pay. The wrappers looked like they were store bought (too perfectly cut/uniform + each stack was plastic wrapped) but they were pretty thin and didn't fall apart because the wontons were so freshly made, and each was packed to the brim with filling. Each soup comes with 12 huge wontons and the broth is clear with a seaweed-forward punch. I put a few generous scoops of chili oil in mine which upped the flavor profile but the broth is delicious as-is. Highly recommend stopping by even if the line looks intimidating - you can always shop a bit in the supermarket while you wait for your food to be ready. Looking forward to coming back (probably at a less busy time) and maybe trying the steamed buns some time!
