A real treasure in downtown Decatur! We eat in Decatur once or twice per year, usually at the Back 40. Due to its closure, we decided to try a different place and we were not disappointed. The pulled pork is second to none and the cowboy baked beans are outstanding. Service is friendly and helpful.
Soul Pig is everything a BBQ place should be. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken they're all good. I didn't even try sauce until over half way through the meal. The sides...WOW! The herbs in the slaw are perfect, def not out of a carton. The greens are southern style and the potato salad is excellent also. The bar is old-school cool; late 18- early 1900’s. Our server was quick, friendly and just the right amount of sassy to handle my family.
Upon recommendation, I came out to Decatur, which is about a 40 minute drive outside of Fort Wayne where I was staying. But I love barbecue and especially barbecue that has Texas style brisket. I got here in the afternoon early evening. It wasn’t really busy but it did start to pick up as I was leaving. My service was great very warm transactional efficient. The food was good Overall. The potato salad was a different taste that I’ve had in potato salad, but it wasn’t bad. The macaroni and cheese was very cheesy And have bacon in it, but could’ve had a little bit more flavor and the greens were good not overly seasoned. I had the brisket. It was very soft. It taste very good and I had smoked turkey which I really meant to order pulled, but it was also very good. I can’t really say much bad about the experience cause I just didn’t have anything bad about the experience the decor was dated but appropriate for a barbecue spot. The environment was pretty jovial and casual. I enjoyed it overall.
