Usually they are good. But today they put to much liquid seasoning, so the bread was soggy when I got home.
Good wings and egg rolls. A bit run down and old but always busy. Need some outdoor seating!
My first experience with Steve’s Pizza involved a U-Haul, their overhang, and more cops than I knew Hamlet had. Back then, the food lived up to the chaos. Today… it’s a different story. Steve’s Pizza is a name many locals remember. Years ago, it was known for its off-the-wall chicken wings, absolutely on point. If you had a lunch break in town, this was where you went. Then came a loss in the family, and the restaurant closed, sitting dark for years, a reminder of what it once was. When it reopened, people showed up. Myself included. There’s something about a familiar name that brings you back, hoping for the same experience. I started with the wings and immediately noticed the difference. Not bad, just not what they once were, different kitchen, and it shows. Wanting to give it a fair shot, I switched to pizza. Cheese pizza is a favorite in my household, so this felt like a safe choice. Visually, it delivers that classic cheese pull, but the structure isn’t there. The crust is too soft to support the weight, and the cheese slides off instead of holding together. The sauce leans noticeably sweet, almost like sugar was chosen over salt and the decision stuck. That might work for some, but it throws off the balance. The dining area is clean (with a solid sanitation grade), but the space itself is minimal and more functional than inviting. For after school pickup with teenage boys? It works. For a date night? Not quite.
