First time at Sumo Sushi & Hibachi and we had a really great experience! It’s a smaller spot, but clearly very popular there were a lot of takeout orders coming in while we dined in, which says a lot about how busy they stay. Our server Zo was amazing. Super attentive, friendly, and on top of everything without being overbearing. She really made the experience even better hey Zo, you rock girl! We ordered spring rolls, shrimp fried rice, and the Monica roll. Everything came out fresh and was really good. Only thing I was missing was a little chili oil for some extra heat, lol. The only thing I would note is I wasn’t informed about a credit card fee before paying I may have missed it, but I did notice my total change when I went to sign and had to ask about it. Overall, still a solid first visit and we’ll definitely be back to try more items on the menu.
A wonderful dining experience. I’ve been frequenting here a lot lately and honestly, I have not been disappointed yet. Great food, aesthetically pleasing dishes, good modern music, quick making the food, nice atmosphere, good service, excellent presentation of sushi & it’s delicious every time! Decent portions on the hibachi as well. All around a great little place. The only thing I don’t like is the parking lot being so bumpy and full of potholes, but that’s not their fault!
Absolutely LOVED our impromptu date night tonight! Of course he knew to take me to my favorite sushi places in Cleveland County, Sumo Sushi! You can NEVER go wrong when you come here! I’ve been here numerous times at varying times of the day and food, service and atmosphere has been on point. We started with the fried oysters. Which I highly recommend. You would never think of putting spicy mayo etc on the oysters but it comes together like a part in your mouth!!! I promise you I could just keep ordering the oysters and make those my meal! I had the Iron Monkey Roll and the Dynasty Roll add Eel Sauce. All of my food was mouth watering so fresh. My husband had the Mamasan Roll and the Philly Cheesesteak Roll. He highly recommends the Mamasan Roll. We ended up bringing 2 take home trays full of food and the price was unbelievable!! Not nearly as expensive as others. Plus, for the quality of food and service it’s crazy at what you get for the price!!! I’m a strong believer in tipping your server so please do so as this may be their only source of income. Sumo Sushi is the #1 place to go!!
This place is AMAZING! Service was fast & friendly. When we arrived, we were the only ones. Within 20 minutes it started to fill up. They also do tons of take away orders. This was our order: Cruncy Rol[pic] Fried Calamari[pic] Hibachi Chicken Bento Box [Hibachi Chicken, fried rice, clear soup] Shrimp Tempura Bento Box [pic] large shrimp, broccoli, sweet potato, onion ring, salad, ginger, miso paste, clear soup [pic] Tempura Calamari [tender and delicious. Tons of food, both Bento Boxes included clear soup , so flavorful. As you can see, tons of good food! Had 2 to go boxes. The fried rice was some of the best plain fried rice we have ever had. We will definitely return, well worth it.
I ordered a roll it was good, but I really wanted some cucumber salad and that was not it. Cucumber salad is usually marinated. You don’t go cut up a cucumber and put sauce on top, didn’t like it at all mad I paid for that
This was our daughter's recommendation to visit this place for great sushi "like we had in New York". Unfortunately this recommendation didn't meet my expectations. Food was very average, not bad but absolutely nothing special, you're expecting something different for that price. Simple rolls are $9-10, special rolls $16-20 and higher. My wife had a roll for $16, it was ok but not perfect. I ordered a bento box just to try different pieces, the price was $16 too. For that money you got 3 sashimi (salmon, great), 3 nigiri (ok) and 4 pieces of roll (baaad), all the chief 's choice. Also my bento box included like 2 tablespoons of seaweed salad and 3 pieces of pineapple as a "fruit". Honestly the portions were small and we left hungry. Also we got the fried ice cream for my wife for $6 and that was a very big portion even for both of us. The ice cream looked cool but tasted so-so and we tried it but couldn't finish. So we got everything you see in the pictures and paid $50 for this (with tips). I think it's overpriced for the average food. Also I have to say this place looks not as clean as it should be and you feel your table is sticky. You feel like you're in a cheap Asian buffet, you can hear like the staff arguing in the kitchen and someone coughs there. This all makes it difficult to enjoy the food. Despite that our young waitress was very nice and that stops me from rating this place lower. Sorry, I would say this is not our perfect sushi place and we won't back.
Stopped in for late lunch and was very happy we did! Ordered noodle bowls. I was disappointed they were out of the hot & spicy udon, so we ended up ordering regular udon noodle bowls, one chicken and one vegetable. They were amazing! Definitely a better broth and flavor than other Japanese places I've been. Lots of veggies and everything looked fresh (see pics). Also ordered the mango roll for desert. I was very colorful and tasty. Great way to end the meal.
Great little hole in the wall spot in Shelby! The food was wonderful. The staff was helpful and really nice. They have a whole book full of customer rolls! So it is a hometown local spot with a customer focus! My type of place! If I were local I would probably have my own roll!
