Sweet Mex is one of my local and favorite spots. From the simple aguas frescas, to the delicious sweet treats/antojitos, down to the AMAZING food. The al pastor taste like heaven. If you like spicy salsa, the orange sauce is just for you! I come back time and time again. If you’re looking for FIRE Mexican food and treats make your way to Sweet Mex 🤩
2026-03-19: I took the food to go so that’s why the photo is not very good but is what I have this time. Don’t let the name “sweet” fool you into thinking there food is sweet. It’s because the restaurant has assortment of gelato and sweet desserts. BUT, I am here for the savory foods. It’s a hidden gem. The food is delicious ! This is my second time there and I plan to expand my menu each time I go. So far I have had two super burritos, a cane asada and a carnitas and chicken flautas. Both were excellent. The hot sauce is nice and hot, but the best is to ask for both medium and hot and mix them up while you eat. This will likely become my go to Mexican place for my Sundays lunch. As of this review, I am already waiting to go back there again next Sunday. Unfortunately I don’t like sweet stuff so I will not be reviewing their desserts. Sorry. If it’s the main dish you want, I can highly recommend this place.
If you want some AUTHENTIC FRESH DELICIOUS Mexican food, this is the place to go! Their pork tacos are off the wall. Freshly made tortillas. Fully flavored meats, good meat, not the cheap stuff that’s filled with hard chewy inedible fibers that you gotta spit out. Their generous and affordable too fresh drinks made with pure freshly cut fruits. A must try.
Classic hole in the wall spot with amazing food. The asada tacos are incredible and the horchata is the perfect amount of sweet after you're done eating
Best tacos I’ve had in a long time Sweet Mex is hands down one of the best spots around. I tried the carnitas, pollo, asada, and chorizo tacos every single one was amazing. Super flavorful, fresh, and cooked just right. It’s a family owned place, and they’re seriously some of the nicest people. You can tell they care about what they’re doing, and it shows. Just an all around great spot definitely a neighborhood gem more people need to check out.
Tasty and authentic! I wanna try everything!
Who would've known the best tacos in Union City is inside a paleteria? Now you know. Please try their out of this world al pastor tacos with their in house handmade tortillas and orange spicy sauce. Don't forget their daily fresh made aguas. Our favorite are piña (pineapple) and frutas (mixed seasonal fruits). Oh yeah...and they have ice creams too. Delicious fresh food. Friendly attentive service. Family friendly atmosphere.
From the outside this place looks very unassuming. It looks like a small snack spot in a strip mall. But the food was notably impressive. I had the watermelon Aguas frescas which was perfectly sweet and had little juicy bits of melon in it, very refreshing. They had lots of flavors to choose from. Then I had the Al Pastor tacos, and they were probably the best al pastor tacos I've had, maybe ever. The meat was seasoned and cooked perfectly, and even had the roasted pineapple that really balanced the flavor and added authenticity to the dish. The cook and the flavors were spot on, and the tortillas used were homemade! This taco was a cut above the rest, I give it a 9.2 out of 10. I don't live around here, but if I'm ever around I'll most definitely stop by again.
