3 months agoMr & Mrs Ramos have dedicated their life to build a place that resembles the real and most authentic Mexican food I have tried as a Mexican traveling abroad. They put so much love and thought on every single item they add to their menu. You can choose from a huge variety of items, from opening to closing. There you will find not only Mexican but also Tex-Mex style flavors. Service is amazing, all of the waitresses are constantly checking up on their diners. Every time I visit San Antonio, La Gardenia is a must for me and my family. My go-to items on the menu are Enchiladas Verdes, Chilaquiles, and Taco de Barabacoa with flour tortilla, but be assured that anything you order will be made with love and taste delicious. La Gardenia family is amazing, they are indeed a family, built with passion and love for food, Mexican culture, and traditions. If you are living in San Antonio and craving authentic Mexican food do not think twice, or if you are traveling, just passing by don’t miss the chance! Important note: It is only opened from Monday to Saturday and closes at 2:00 pm.

4 months agoDefinitely a local spot that’s not a “Riverwalk” tourist place. The bakery “concha” was the best I’ve had and the food was delicious and very reasonably priced!

7 months agoIt’s probably the best quality Tex-Mex in the area. The food is always hot and fresh. The portions are good. Their carne guisada is better than most places and made with brown gravy and thick pieces of meat. They also have a good weekday breakfast taco special. Prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly. It’s a solid choice if you’re in the area.

7 months agoLet me tell you about this little hidden gem. My employees tell me they've been going here for the last 2 months everyday this is next to fort Sam Houston at the corner of Carson and pine. Let me tell you the beef or cheese enchiladas are very good and I eat at Garcia's, Blanco Cafe, and los barrios all the time. The food here is a rival to these places. I've tried a few plates of different variety and everything is good. Everything. And don't give me started on their big donuts I don't even like doughnuts that much but these are some of the best ones I have ever had. I took one home to my wife and she's a big sweet person and even she said that was one of the best ones she's ever had got to go early because sometimes I don't want to be gone by 11: 00am or 12: 00pm. Puffy tacos are amazing The poblano enchiladas sauce to die for(I think that's what they were) The cheese enchilada plate and the beef enchiladas and crispy taco all perfect the pic of the other is delicious. Keep up the good work, keep up the good food we will be back continuously Oh and I forgot to add everyday the specials change and they are super cheap between $8 and $9. Give it a try it's worth it

11 months agoOne of the best OG restaurants in SA! From the bakery to the plates, this place will feed you and have you leaving satisfied! They do an all-day breakfast, which is what I was craving. The thin, flakey pastry with pecans was light & delicious. The green enchiladas was on point, and the French Toast was ok, but still didn't disappoint. The al pastor & brisket tacos were slightly dry, but cilantro & onion and a bit of salsa juiced them up! The chicharro taco was the best I've had in SA so far. Will definitely bring my visitors who want a local experience.

a year agoRestaurant Review: Bitterly Disappointed with Breakfast Burrito Experience I recently visited hoping to enjoy a solid breakfast burrito and left feeling incredibly disappointed. For $13, I received a watermelon drink (which was perfectly fine) and a breakfast burrito that fell far short of expectations. I ordered a sausage breakfast burrito, and the server even confirmed my preference — country sausage, patties, or links. I chose links, thinking I’d get proper link sausage. Instead, what I received were those tiny pig-in-a-blanket-style hot dogs. To make matters worse, the eggs inside were undercooked, and the red sauce I poured over the burrito had an overwhelming tomato paste flavor — not the rich, spicy salsa you’d expect with Mexican-inspired cuisine. After eating Mexican food for over 30 years, I can confidently say I’ve never had salsa that tasted quite like that. When my server checked in and I asked if the “sausage” was actually mini hot dogs, she confirmed it with a nod — no apology or explanation. At that point, I just tried to eat what I could since I didn’t have time to wait for a corrected order. Honestly, I worried that asking for a redo might result in my food being tampered with, so I just left frustrated. For $13, I expect better quality and attention to detail. Mistakes happen, but getting the order right the first time is crucial — especially when the alternative is food that leaves you questioning what you’re even eating. I won’t be returning.

Edited a month agoBVOCAL4LOCAL. UPDATE... Still top-notch service. Fantastic tortillas. Great Pan dulce. Chocolate conchas yum. They have expanded on one side so they have more tables. So yay that. Weekday is not too bad for breakfast. Weekends can get crazy enough to have a line out the door around the corner. Unless there's a tornado- stand in that line and you will enjoy it LOL UPDATE... Still an incredible tortilla. And it's about that brisket taco, YUM. Service is always on point. And don't leave without at least one piece of pan dulce. Once you sit down and have a table you can take turns going up to the counter and picking out your sweet bread. They'll put it in the basket and you can take it back to your table and they'll charge you and your bill at the same time. I think they make one of the best marinitos in town and I have one friend that is hooked on the chocolate conchas. I have one friend that always loves the breakfast special, two tamales and a coffee. Great price! And I was allowed to taste one of the tamales LOL and I may have to get that next time. I did notice a plate that went by and somebody had the tamales toasted on the grill. Yum. Everything about this place is wonderful- the tacos, the magical tortillas, the sweetbreads, the service. Table or booth seating. Parking can be a challenge. TAKE THE CHALLENGE lol. They have lost their parking lot across the street to development but if you look behind the building you will find their unpaved lot. I have made the slight struggle, even through the rain. When you want Taco La Gardenia... You want it lol!
