2 months agoinsane quality of food, sooo good. employees are so nice and even offered us free samples of their drinks and all were delicious. music is a vibe, i could hang there all day. 10/10 experience

2 months agoBest Mexican place on the northside! Every salsa was unique and delicious. We had handmade chips with fresh guac. Steak and al pastor tacos, and horchata and I'll definitely be back to try something new next time.

Edited 3 months agoEDIT: My card was charged several dollars more than I tipped. NOT COOL. You better believe this charge was disputed. Awful service on a Saturday night. We were very excited to try Tepalcates after hearing such positive praise about it. Unfortunately the complete lack of service made it a poor experience. After placing our order at the counter, we sat and proceeded to wait over an hour for our tacos. During this time, we watched every table turn over at least once and several turn over twice. About 45 minutes after ordering, one of the servers came and asked us what our order was. They were clearly disorganized in the kitchen. When the owner finally brought our food, he (nor anyone else) ever acknowledged how long it took. No “sorry it took so long” or anything of the sorts. When heading back to the register to pay, the cashier didn’t even tell me the amount I owed before telling me to tap my card. I had to ask, and she didn’t once show an itemized receipt. Also $5+ for a taco is pretty pricey for Mexican style when the tortillas aren’t made in house or anything else overly special. There were a few other service oddities like being the only group/couple not to be offered a juice sample. Not a big deal but it was noticeable while we waited. I’m not sure if Roscoe Village is simply devoid of good Mexican food, but I’d hard pass on Tepalcates if given the chance again.

4 months agoOur friend recommended this spot to us and we were instantly greeted by the owner Jose. He gave us samples of their juices and we ended with the guava and limeade mixed together. We had the beef nachos, octopus and suadero tacos as well as quesabirria. Everything was delicious and we will definitely be back!! Best Mexican food in the city

Edited 3 months agoFirst time here. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and given free samples of the drinks. I loved the passion fruit drink. I tried horchata for the first time too. It was good. Tasted perfect for the holidays. I ordered the fish tacos. The tilapia was good. Service was amazing. They were making sure I enjoyed the food and everything as I was eating. Small cozy place with really good service and good food. Can't ask for much better to be honest. Went a second time and got shrimp taco with no jalapenos and added lettuce. Very filling and good.

5 months agoThe owner seems like a really good person. I ordered what he recommended. He gave me some samples of his juices. Every single one was delicious! Had the octopus, ribeye and a pulled pork tacos. Couldn't decide which I liked the most. Each one was absolutely delicious. The octopus was tender and very flavorful, same with the other 2. They make their chips fresh which were excellent as well. I will be back!

6 months agoFantastic meal with exceptional service. Right when we walked in, we were greeted with samples of a variety of their drinks and a thorough overview of the menu. Everything was great but the octopus taco stole the show. I will definitely be back!

6 months agoWent here after applefest, food was so good had to leave a review. Will definitely be back!! We ordered un taco de camarón, uno de al pastor, y uno de chorizo con agua fresca (lemonade & passion fruit). My man ordered un torta de asada. Shrimp taco was super good with salsa waitress recommended!!
