A must-see when visiting the Montague/Whitehall area! I had a great time browsing the books while enjoying a cup of coffee with a shot of my favorite Irish liqueur for a cold day. They have a large selection of books and games for the young and old alike. My husband and I couldn't decide so ended up buying 2 games. They also have a wonderful place for musicians to gather and play or to entertain while you browse.
The food and drinks here are really quite good, especially the smoothies. However, beware that if you check out with books while you buy food, they will factor your book purchases into the tip, as if the employees were personally holding your hand, walking you through the store, and helping you choose your books. They're a bit overpriced as is, like $6 for those miniature Penguin Classics that are originally priced at $2. Then factoring that into the tip is just dishonest. Hard to justify stopping here when you have more reasonably-priced options with a better selection in Grand Haven, Muskegon, and Ludington.
The vibe here is great, atmosphere is super cool & the shop itself is really neat. Service was friendly, but unfortunately we won't be back for the food. Hot chocolates were basically just hot milk with whipped cream on top, almost no chocolate flavor. I understand sometimes that's how homemade hot chocolate is, so I can forgive that. Kids meals were Kraft Mac n' cheese, PB & J on really DRY bread. Kids didn't care though, so that too can be forgiven. Server girl forgot the club soda we ordered, then made it the wrong flavor once reminded. This, too, can be forgiven. But what was SO hilariously bad..? The kids meals came with FOUR grapes. FOUR. Four anemic, shriveled grapes. It was so bad that we were giggling. Everyone has different standards. But for a $6 kid's meal I'm expecting a little more than what we received.
