Top Reviews
See All ReviewsThe Coop serves a standard fare of chicken, hamburgers and pasta but the quality and taste of the food is at the 5 star end of the spectrum for such fare when the price is considered. Never before has such a good meal been served to so many people at such a good price. And if you sit at the bar, you can order from the bartender and you get your food as soon as it is ready. So 5 stars for service even if I didn't get a black-attired waiter with a corkscrew and 36" pepper mill. Atmosphere? Do you like dive bars? Would you like to be surrounded by inanimate representations of chicken? Do you mind if the person next to you chooses to yell at their cell phone because they are tuned into a fight while the bars televisions are tuned to the latest match of Olympic curling and no one cares? Also consider mysterious things on the wall that were probably something but now no one knows? Looking for a place to meet up with the girl you were dating and starting to fall in love with, that moved in with your friend the day after she met him and is having a birthday but going to their house fur that would be weird now? Bam. 5 stars for atmosphere.
I went here with a large church group. We had a reservation && utilized the big back room, seating about 30+ people. The food was great, the atmosphere was amazing - we stayed until closing and the employees didn't complain. They were very friendly &provided great service. 10/10 would recommend.
To be completely transparent i have not been to the chicken coop, the 5 stars are simply to not put them down or pass any judgment on either food or service. I was in that building in 1988 or 89, when It was own by a French gentleman and it was called "Le Biarritz", his home town in France. It was elegant, it had white table cloth, real silver silverware, a beautiful bar that commanded respect, the type of place where you would find Porsches, Mercedes, Bmw's. The kind of place that you would feel out of place in jeans... it was a really classy place. I remember the grand piano in the corner playing some awesome music, candles on the tables and a plush carpet that made you feel like you were a star on Oscar night. I don't know what happened to Ivan Humber, him and i, both french were friends. He was my dad friends. They had met on the boat crossing the Atlantic in the early 60's, rented a car in New York and headed west. My dad worked in banks, and Ivan didn't have much. Started as a busboy, then waiter, then with another waiter got a loan and they both bought the place out. Years later Yvan bought him out, and he owned it for a decade or so... His dream was to sale the place, cash out, and move to Brazil and find himself a cute Brazilian girl. I wonder...I just wonder..
